Southwark


An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord King as the parish of
Saint John within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the thirty first
day of March in the thirty sixth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third
by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so
forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London
and Borough of Southwark on view of the body of a man whose name to the Jurors is
unknown now here lying dead by the oath of James Calway< no role > Peter Hogg< no role > Joseph Gardner< no role >
Samuel Blick< no role > Joseph Borreman< no role > James Smith< no role > Dennis Cottrell< no role > William Weedon Thomas
Walker John Means Job Pritchard James Russell< no role > Richard Rowland< no role > John Soans James< no role >
Jobb Charles Shan< no role > and William Heacock good and lawful men of the Borough of
Southwark aforesaid who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for
our said Lord the King when how and in what manner the said man whose name to the Jurors
aforesaid is unknown came to his death say upon their oath that the said man whose name to the
Jurors aforesaid is unknown then lately before accidentally casually and by misfortune fell into
the River of Thames and in and with the Waters of the said River was then and there suffocated
and drowned of which said suffocation and drowning the said man whose name to the
Jurors aforesaid is unknown did then and there die In Witness whereof as well the said
Coroner as the said James Calway the foreman of the said Jurors on behalf of himself
and the rest of his fellows in their presence have to this Inquisition set their hands and seals
the day year and place first above written.
