London Depositions of Witnesses taken at London that
is to say, at the parish of Saint Dunstan in the
East in the Ward of Tower in London aforesaid
this 4th. day of August 1795 on view of the
Body of a Man unknown now here lying
Dead

Humphrey Jefferies< no role > of No. 91 lower Thames Street London
Ironmonger maketh oath that about ½ past 4 in the
afternoon of Sunday last he saw the deced who went by
the Name of John and whom he has seen and known
some Years past as a an Errand Man [..] upon the foot
pavement on the south side of lower Thames street in the
parish of saint Mary at Hill uponthat he appeared to
be in an awkward posture rather sitting upon his Heels
one Hand on the pavement and the other hand bent towards
his Head upon which he seemed to recline. that he appeared
insensible. but whether he was asleep or otherwise Dept
can't say. some persons coming part moved him and
placed him in a sitting posture against the Wall of a
Warehouse near where he was that he never moved
after-Dept. went to the Beadle of Billingsgate Ward
& acquainted him of the deced being there-Dept. then
returned to his own House which was opposite where the
deced lay and sometime after the deced was moved
by two Men (the Beadle of Billingsgate ward Mr. Tibbs being present) from where he lay to Dog Tavern Passage just across
the street-that he was still insensible-that the deced
continued in Dog Tavern passage until about ½ past
nine when a Surgeon went to him who upon examining [..]
discoveredhim declared he was dead

Nathaniel Tibbs< no role > Beadle of Billingsgate Ward maketh
Oath that about ½ past 6 OClock on Sunday afternoon last
inconsequence of an Application from the last Witness Mr
Jefferies Dept. went & found the deced whom he has known
by eight some years lying upon the pavement in lower
Thames street opposite Mr. Jefferies House-that he was
quite insensible & lying nearly double-that Dept. went
& got two Men & in about a quarter of an hour returned
to the deced. That it [..] raining very hard
and some persons suggesting to Dept. that it would be better
