Southwark Depositions of Witnesses taken at the Parish
of Saint Thomas with in the Borough of
Southwark in the County of Surrey this 22d
day of April 1795 on view of the Body of
James Aspenell< no role > now here lying Dead

Sarah Bishop< no role > Spinster one of the Sisters of Saint
Thomas's Hospital maketh Oath that the deced James
Aspenell a little Boy bet six & seven years of age
has been a patient in the said Hospital and under Dept
care three Weeks last Thursdaythat a little before three
in Monday aftnoon last Dept. had occasion to leave the
Ward that she left the deced in the Ward at playthat
in about aqr. of an hour Dept retd to the Ward & miped
the decdDept. made several inquiries in the other Wards
& with several persons but could learn nothing of the deced
until near four OClock when Dept met a soldier a Patient
of Dept. Ward of whome she inquired after the deced he sayed
he had not seen him Dept. thinking the deced might have
gone to the privy belonging to thedecedHospital [..] desired
the Solider togethere & look after him the soldier went
accordingly & took another Man belonging to Depts Ward
with him-the last Man soon after returned & informed
Dept. they had found the deced in the privy& in a little
time after the deced was broughtdeadinto Dept. Ward
quite dead.

George Clark< no role > a Private belonging to the Prince of Wales
Regiment of Light Horse but now a Patient in St Thomas's
Hospital maketh Oath that about four OClock on Monday
afternoon last at the request of the last Witness he went to
the public Privy belonging to St. Thomas Hospital to
search after the deced that Edward Farrell< no role > went with him
that on looking they could seen thing Dept. then tried with
a Stick & after a little while he felt something which he
thought to be the deced-Dept then put his Hand down
& got the deced upthat he fell cold & ever quite dead
