Southwark Depositions of Witnesses taken at
the Parish of Saint John within the
Borough of Southwark in the County of
Surrey this 18th day of June 1794 on view
of the Body of a Man unknown now
here lying Dead.

Abraham Barton< no role > Grave Digger of the parish of
Saint John within. the Borough of Southwark maketh
Oath that Yesterday about two OClock a person came
to Dept. and acquainted him a [..] drowned man lay
at Horsley Down< no role > new stairs, in consequence of which
and on the Landing place of the stain Dept. saw the
deced lying on his Back covered over with a Mat
that he had a Sailors Dress on that the appeared to
have been some time in the Water and the Body was
in a putrid state-that the person who gave Dept. the
Informon of the deced lying there appeared to be a Water
man & told Dept. he had found the deced at the Ren
of Ship in the River & had towed the deced on Shend
to the Stairs where Dept. foundhim.
