An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at London that is to say at the Parish of Saint Dunston
in the West of the Ward of Farringdon without in London aforesaid on the sixteenth day of December in the thirty fourth year of the reign of our Sovereign
Lord George the third by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the faith and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role >
Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the Body of Samuel Slaughter< no role > now
here lying dead by the Oath of John Thorne< no role > John Morgan< no role > Cook Kemp Bourne James Smith< no role > Jeremiah Jordan< no role > Samuel Kannam< no role >
Ebenezer Clark< no role > John Heath< no role > Arthur Scaife Henry Downer< no role > Thomas Vigor< no role > William Dutton< no role > John Marriott< no role > George Thatcher< no role > George Cooper< no role >
John Leggett< no role > Arnold Finchett< no role > and Thomas Gurney< no role > good and lawful men of the City of London who being now here duly chosen sworn
and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King when how and in what manner the said Samuel Slaughter< no role > came to his death
say upon their Oath that a certain person or persons to the Jurors aforesaid unknown not having the fear of God before his her or their eyes
but being moved and reduced by the instigation of the Devil on the thirteenth day of December in the year aforesaid with force arms at
the parish of Dunstan in the West in the Ward of Farringdon without in London aforesaid in and upon the said Samuel Slaughter< no role > in the
peace of God and our said Lord the King then and there being feloniously wilfully and of his her or their malice aforethought did
make an Assault And that the saidperson or persons unknown with a certain Iron poker of the value of three pence him
the said Samuel Slaughter< no role > in and upon the head face Shoulder arms and hands of him the said Samuel Slaughter< no role > did then and there
feloniously wilfully and of his her or their malice aforethought violently strike and beat giving to turn the said Samuel Slaughter< no role > then
and there by such striking and beating with the poker aforesaid divers mortal bruises and fractures in and upon the said head
face shoulders arms and Hands of him the said Samuel Slaughter< no role > of which said mortal bruises sand fractures he the said Samuel
Slaughter did then and there instantly die And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that they the said person or persons
unknown him the said Samuel Slaughter< no role > in manner and by the means aforesaid feloniously did kill and murder against the
peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and dignity And that the sd person or persons unknown to
the aforesaid Jurors at the time of committing the felony and murder aforesaid or at any time since had
no goods or Chattels-lands or tenements within the City of London or else were to the knowledge of the said Jurors
And that the said person or persons to the Jurors aforesaid unknown after he she or they had done and
committed the felony and murder aforesaid withdraw himself herself an themselves and fled for the same
In Witnesses whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Jurors have to this Inquisition set their
hands and seals the day year and place first above written
