LondonDepositions of Witnesses taken as London
that is to say, at the parish of Saint Mary
le Bowin the Wark of Cordwainer
in London aforesaid this 21st. day of August
1793 on view of the body of Thomas Pope< no role >
now here lying Dead.

KnightbridgeSpencer of No. 2 Court Bread Street Mouter
maketh Oath that he hath known the deced Thomas Pope< no role > about
twelve Monthsthat about nine OClock Yesterday Morning having been sent for he went
to the House of Mr. Hunter sayed in Bow Church Yard that in consequence
of what Mr. Hunter sayed to Dept. he went up to a two pair of stairs
front Room in Mr Hunter Brome< no role > wherein Dept. understood the
deced had slept the proceeding Nighthat the Door was that
and factured insidea Carpenter was sent for who brooke the
Door open in Dept. presenceDept. went into the Room and
found the deced lying upon his face on the Cowpel in the middle of
the Rooma little Blood near himthat he appear to he dead
that a Surgeon was sent who came and examined the deced that he was
quite deadthat upon opening the Waiscoat and Shirt they
discovered a Wound under the left Breast which appeared to have
been occasioned a Pistol Ballthey then searched the Room and also
the deceds and in one of the deced Coat Pockets they found a loaded
Pistol and under a Chair near the Window they found a Pistol
unloaded which appeared to have been recently fired off and the
Room smelt< no role > of Gunpowder.

Duncan Hunter< no role > of Bow Church Yard Fastor maketh Oath that
he hath known the deced since the year 1782that Dept. knew the
deced as New York in America at which time he had some employ
under Governmentthat the deced has been in England between two
and three years last pastand resided inaboutand about London
that when the deced was in America Dept. understood from him that
he had Sustained great loper by Goverment that about twelve Months
ago the deced tred Dept. his income was very small that he had very
little to live on-that in September last and since from the exprepions
of the deced and his Conversation with Dept. he has considered the
deced deranged in his SencesthatwhenDept. has met the deced
in the Street he has talked in a very wild strange manner saying
that he was sworn laid-that he was affraid to go about the streets.
