Informations of Witnesses taken
at the parish of Saint Olave within the
Borough of Southwark in the County of
Surrey on the 22d day of May 1792 on
view of the Body of John Brewer< no role > now
here lying dead.

George Simpson< no role > an Apprentice to William Binstead< no role >
of Maidstone in the County of Kent Mariner and HoymanStarter < no role > of
the Emisty Barger of the same place
maketh Oath that he
hath known the deced John Brewer< no role > between two and three
a years that he was Master of the Barge the Union of Maidstone
aforesaid thataboutDept. sailed in the same Barge with the
deced that about the hour of twelve in the Night of Thursday
last Dept. None John Wilson< no role > who sails in the same Barge having
conveyed the said Barge the Union down the River from Cottons
Wharf to Beals Wharf in the parish of Saint Olave the
deced came on board the Barge to assist in getting her in as
near the Wharf as possible to unlead her. that the deced took
hold of a Wooden Staff for the purpsoe of pushing the Barge
within another Barge that day alongside the Wharf . that
the deced placed the staff against the side of the other Barge
and pushed with all his strength he then standing with one foot on the
Deck and the other upon the Gunwhole of his own Barge
that by some means the oliter end of the staff slipt and the
deced fell from his Barge into the Waterbetween [..] that
the decedDept. was standing very near the deced for the purpose
of getting into the inner Barge to haul his own Barge inthat
the other Man John Wilson< no role > had gone in another Barge outside
of Dept. that Dept. immediately gave the alarm and Dept. leant
over the side of the Barge to try to catch hold of the deced
but could not that the deced plunged about in the Water and
soon after sunk under the waterthat Dept. saw the deced
brought to Cottom Wharf dead yesterday Morning about
ten or Eleven O Clock.
