Southwark

Informations of Witnesses
taken at the Parish of Saint John within
the Borough of Southwark in the County
of Surrey on the 10th day of September 1791
on view of the Body of James Smith< no role > now
here lying dead.

William Price< no role > a Pauper in the Poor house of the
Parish of Saint Olave situate in the Parish of Saint
John within the Borough of Southwark maketh
Oath that the deced has been in the said Workhouse about
a Weekthat about the hour of ten in the Morning of
Yesterday the ninth instt. on Dept. going into one of the
Rooms [..] Ward of said Work house called the Sick Ward
he observed the deced in a sitting Posture between two
[..] Bedsteads in the said Wardthat Dept. thought
the deced looked ill and pale in the face as if dying
Dept. wentand informedout for the purpose of informing
the first person he should meetthere being one person
in the Room of the situation of the deced was inThat he met
one Johnson a Pauper belonging to the [..] Dept.
told Johnson he thought the deced was dying and
requested Johnson to go & look at himthat Johnson
returned with Dept. to the decedthat they found
the deced hanging by a piece of Cord fastened to the
round the Leg of [..] a turn up Bedstead in the Room
that the deced was quite Cold and deadthat
about three or four days ago on Dept. going into the
Room were the deced usually lay he saw the deced lying
on a Bed in the Roomthat he appeared very ill and
low in spirits and melancholy& Dept. understood the
deced was too ill as to be unable to get out of his Bed
without assistance

Hane situate in the Parish of saint John Southwark maketh
that he hath known the deced for about Eleven Daysthat
the day the deced came to the Work house he was so ill as
he led between two Men up to the Sick Ward belonging
