Depositions of Witnesses taken at London
that is to say, at the Parish of Saint Mary
Somerset in the Ward of Queenhithe
in London aforesaid the 3d. day of August
1790 on view of the Body of Samuel Walmsley< no role >
then and there lying dead.

Charles Roberts< no role > of High Timber Street in the Parish of Saint
Michael Queenhithe< no role > [..] in the Ward of Queenhith London Warehouse
-man maketh Oath that about four OClock on Sunday
Afternoon last Deponent [..] being on Mr. Wilsons Wharf
situate in the parish of Saint Michael Queenhithe he saw
the Legs and Posteriors of a Man in the Water within
about eight Yards of the said Wharf that he apprehended
the person the in the Water whose Legs and Posterior he
saw was sinking under the Water and in danger of Drowning
that some people then about and near the place endeavoured to
assist the said Person that [..] Yesterday Morning
[..] about seven OClock Dept: saw the deceased lying dead
upon some hundles on said Wharf

James Ives< no role > a Lodger at [..] 3 Henry Street Old Street Square
in the County of Middlesex Cordwainer maketh Oath that he hath
known the deced Samuel Walmsley< no role > about twelve Years
that he was a Smith by Business and lodged in a Court in
Golden Lane Middx. that about four OClock on Sunday
Afternoon last Dept: and the deceased went down to some Wharf
near the River to go into the River Thames to Swim havingagreed
setted a Po [..] of Beer which could Swim the best that Dept.
and the deceased were both intoxicated with Liquor that
Dept. pulled off his Cloaths first that the deced soon followed
that Dept. and the deced had not been long in the Water before
Dept. found himself in danger being out of Breath he caught
hold of a Rope that Dept. has no recollection what happened
to the deced or himself afterwardsuntilthat he recollects about
five OClock some persons saying the deced had been drowned
that [..] about Six OClock this Evening he saw the deced lying
dead in Queenhithe Church that Dept. and the deced were in
habits of Friendship.
