an Apprentice
to Mr. Henry Kettle< no role >
of No. 23 Saint Pauls Church London
Cabinetmaker and Upholsterer
that about a Quarter past
nine of the Clock on Monday Morning, last Dept. being
then comeing out of his Masters door No. 23 St. Pauls
Church Yard
aforesaid he observed a Coal Cart drawn
by three Horses driving very fast towards Ludgate
Hill that the Cart was Empty-that the Horses
appeared to be comeing on the Pavement or footway
that Dept. did not then observe any Driver belonging
to the Coal Cart-that he endeavoured to get out of the
Way fearing that the Cart and Horses might endanger
his safety and run a little way down Black Swan
Court close by-that when the Cart & Horses had
got past Black Swan
Court Dept. then came out of
said Court and then observed that said Coal Cart
and Horses had crossed a Scavengers Cart that was

Ludgate Hill
towards Cheapside

Coal Cart catched the left Shaft of the Scavenger
Cart-and by that means turned the Coal Cart
nearly round-That the Shaft Horse of the Scavenger
Cart had nearly been down with the force or violence
it received-but the Horse recovering forced the
Scavengers
Cart backwards and by that means
disengaged themselves-that then [..] both the
Carts went [..] gently on the one towards
Ludgate Hill
and the other towards Cheapside
that he then observed the deced lying with his
face downwards lying on the Pavement near the
Church that he went to him-the deced was bleeding
at the Left temple as Dept. believesthat it
appearedthat he was very black in the face-that
the deced was speechless as Dept. thinks for he did not
hear him speak-that several people came amongst
which was
