At this Court The Proposal of
Thomas Burdles< no role >
Esqr
. (Proprietor
of Fleetditch
) for a Lease of Pig key with the Stairs & Grounds belonging thereto
was read as follows Vizt.
Whereas Several Lighters laden with Coals and other Merchandrize lye before
the Key and Wharf and thereby not only Obstruct the Hospital of Bridewell
from the use
and benefit thereof, but break down the Stairs and whereof by being Fostered there & pay
no manner of Dutys or Yeild any manner of Profit to the Hospital yet very much
Damnify that EstateAnd Whereas by the means aforesaid such Lighters
are frequently Conveyd' in the night Tides into Fleet Ditch & Unladed & Carried out with the
return of such Tides, whereby the Proprietor is Defrauded of th Duty of Dockage and
Wharf age due to himFor Remedy whereof for the future and for the Advantage of
the said Hospital and the Proprietor of the said DitchIt is Proposed that if the
Corporation of the Hospital will let a Lease (for their usual Term of Granting Lease) to
the Proprietor of Fleet ditch That he will put the Key, Stairs & Promisses in good repair
& keep them soAnd that power be reserved to the Corporation for the Lading &
Unlading of all Goods whatsoever (not for Sale but) for the Proper use of the Hospital or
otherwise as shall be Judged Proper And to pay a Yearly rent of Twenty Shillings

It is Order'd that the Consideration of the said Proposal be Referred to the
Comittee of this House who are desired to Consult with the Comittee of the City Lands & to
Report to this Court their Opinion what is proper to be door therein
