Beadles Gratuity for ½ Year
at Xmas 1723}


Upon reading the humble Petitions of the four Beadles and Porters man of
this Hospital for their usual Gratuitys of forty Shillings a peice in respect of the half year
ending at Christmas last for that their Salarys are but smallIt is Order'd
that the Clerk of these Hospitals do give and pay unto them forty Shillings a peice to be
Allow'd it him in his next Account

at Xmas 1723}


Upon reading the humble Petitions of the three Beadles or Basketman of
the Hospital of Bethlem for their usual Gratuitys of Twenty shillings a peice in respect
of the half year ending at Xmas last for that their Salarys are but small
It is Order'd that the Clerk of these Hospitals do give and pay unto them
Twenty Shillings a peice to be allow'd him in his next Account.

Mr John Burnham< no role > one of the Artsmasters of this Hospital Complain'd
of his Apprentice John Mason< no role > for running away from him twice & Stealing two
Dozen and an half of Silver buttons & a pair of Shoes & a Wastcoat and being
call'd in he Confes'd it & ask'd the Court's & his Masters Pardon & promised never
to do the like agen But his Master acquainting this court that the said boy hat
get into a Gang of Loose fellows & that he was afraid he would be rescued of some
means were not taken to prevent itIt is Order'd that he be Corrected
& that he return home to his Master which was done accordingly

Sr. Edward Becker< no role > Knight & Alderman Apply'd to this Court in
behalf of James Pyke< no role > (Apprentice to Mr. Nipp one of the Artsmasters of this Hospital)
who was Order'd by the Comittee the 14th. day of February last to be Corrected for
refusing to Sing at Chappel but made his Escape out of the Window ) And desired
the Court wou'd reprimand him & forgive him his Offence & that he might go to his
Master agenAnd the said James Pyke< no role > being call'd in beg'd pardon of the Court &
promised to behave himself well for the futureHe was reprimanded by Mrs
President & Order'd to return home to his Master

this Court in behalf of John Best< no role > (Apprentice to Mr. Cundett one of the Artsmasters
of this Hospital) who was Order'd by the Comittee the 14th. day of February last to be
Corrected for refusing to Sing at Chappel but made his Escape out of the Window) and
desired the Court wou'd reprimand him & forgive him his Offence & that he might go
to his Master agenAnd the said John Best< no role > being call'd in beg'd Pardon of
the Court & Promised to behave himself well for the futureHe was Reprimanded
