<p n="264">Strong Waters, as well as Ale and Boer, tho'' tis highly probable<lb></lb>
from the great and sudden decay of the Brewing Trade, without<lb></lb>
any Diminution in the Number of Victuallers, That the<lb></lb>
Quantities of Strong Waters now Drunk in Ale houses is vastly<lb></lb>
increased of late beyond what was formerly usual. And it<lb></lb>
appears by the Constables returns where they are distinguished<lb></lb>
that the Number of Geneva and other Strong Water Shops are<lb></lb>
fully equall to the Number of Ale houses, and rather exceed<lb></lb>
than otherwise.</p>
<p n="265">It is with the deepest Concern your Comittee observe, the strong<lb></lb>
inclination of the inferior sort of people to these distructive<lb></lb>

, and such who sell Fruit or Herbs in Stalls or<lb></lb>
Wheelbarrows, sell Geneva, and may inferior Tradesmen<lb></lb>
begin now to keep it in their Shopps for their Customers,<lb></lb>
whereby it is scarce possible for Soldiers Seamen Servants<lb></lb>
or others of their Ranke to go any where, without being<lb></lb>
Drawn in either by those who sell it, or by their<lb></lb>
acquaintance they meet within the Street, who generally<lb></lb>
begin with inviting them to a Dram, which is every<lb></lb>
where near at Hand, especially, where of all other places<lb></lb>
it ought to be kept at the greatest distance, near<lb></lb>
Churches, Workhouses, Stable Yards, and Marketts.<lb></lb>
Your Comittee after having inform'd themselves as well<lb></lb>
as they were able, of the Numbers of the Houses proceeded<lb></lb>
to inquire, according to your Directions, into the mischiefs<lb></lb>
ariseing from them and from the imoderate use of those<lb></lb>

<p n="266">With respect to particular persons, It deprives them of<lb></lb>
their Money, Time, Health, and understanding, weakens<lb></lb>
and infeebles them to the last Degree, and yet while<lb></lb>
under its imediate influence, raises the most Violent<lb></lb>
and outrageous passions, renders them incapable of hand<lb></lb>
Labour, as well as indispress them lo it, ruins their Health</p>
