Informations of Witnesses taken upon
oath this 23rd. day of September 1788. at the
Dwelling House of Mr William Carter< no role > the
Sign of the Gown and Apple Tree in Berwict
Street in the Parish of Saint James in the
Liberty of Westmr. Before Thomas Prickard< no role >
Gent. His Majestys' Coroner for the said City
and Liberty on View of the body of Edward
Payce
< no role > then and there lying Dead. as follow (to wit)
High Farley Servant to Mr. West a Sheriffs Officer in Berwick
Street St. James's in the Liberty of Westmr. on his Oath saith, That
the Deceased has been in Custody in Execution for Debt. in Mr
Thomas West< no role > s House ever since the 4th, day of September Instant, the
Deceased was perfectly well when he first came, and has so
continued that on SundayEveninglast the 21st. Instant he spent the Evening with
some ofother Prisoners, and appeared to be very chearful and well
about 12 o'Clock that Night the Deponent parted with the Deceased
at the fool of the Stavis when he went to Bed as other Prisoners did
the Deceased had drank Porter chiefly that Day, was rather in
