An Inquisition Indented taken for Our Sovereign Lord the
King at the Parish of St. George Hanover Square within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter
of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter Westminster in the County of Middlesex , the Eighth
Day of February in the Fourth Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George
the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the
Faith and so forth before Thomas Prickard< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said Lord the King
for the said City and Liberty on View of the Body of Evan Jones< no role > and there lying
Dead, upon the Oath of William Hodson< no role > , John Hall< no role > , Benjamin Carter< no role > , Richard Okes< no role > , John

William Jones< no role > and John Worrall< no role > good and lawfull Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly Sworn and charged to inquire for our said Lord the King whe [..]
how, and by what Means the said Evan Jones< no role > came to his Death do upon Their
Oath say, That a certain Person called by the name of Lieutenant Span late of the Parish of St. George Hanover Square within the Liberty and County aforesaid on the fifth day of February
in the said fourth Year of the Reign of our said Lord the King, with Force and Arms at the Parish
aforesaid within the Liberty aforesaid in the County aforesaid, in and upon the said Evan Jones< no role > in the
Peace of God and our said Lord the King then and there being Feloniously did make an Assault,
And that the said Lieutenant Span a certain Pistol charged and loaded with Gun Powder and a leaden
Bullet, which he the said Lieutenant Span then and there had and held in his right Hand, to and
against him the said Evan Jones< no role > did then and there shoot off and discharge, by Means whereof he the said
Lieutenant Span feloniously did then and there give unto him the said Evan Jones< no role > with the leaden Bullet
aforesaid, so as aforesaid shot off and discharged, out of the Pistol aforesaid, by the force of the Gun powder
aforesaid, under the right Arm of him the said Evan Jones< no role > one Mortal Wound, of the breadth of one Inch
and of the depth of four Inches, of which said Mortal Wound he the said Evan Jones< no role > from the said fifth day of
February in the Year aforesaid until the Sixth day of the same Month of February in the same Year at the
Parish aforesaid within the Liberty and County aforesaid, did languish and languishing did live, on which
said sixth day of February in the Year aforesaid, the said Evan Jones< no role > at the Parish aforesaid within the Liberty
and County aforesaid, of the said Mortal Wound did Dye. And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid
do say, that the said Lieutenant Span him the said Evan Jones< no role > in manner and form aforesaid , feloniously
did Kill and Slay, against the Peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity. And that the said Lieutenant
Span at the time of Committing the Felony and Manslaughter aforesaid, or of any time since had no
Goods or Chattels Lands or Tenements, to the Knowledge of the said Jurors. In Witness whereof as well
the said Coroner, as the said William Hodson< no role > , Foreman of the said Jurors, on the behalf of himself and the
rest of his said Fellows, in their presence, have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the Day
