Present course of the Hospital with respect to Parish Patients.

Grant to Mr. Bedel


We have Granted to Mr William Bedel< no role > a Lease of a House in
Thread needle Street late in the tenure of Mr. Richard Little< no role > and adjoyning
to another House lately Leased to the said Mr. Bedel for a term of fifty
years from Laday 1739. when the present Lease will expire at £10-P ann
clear rent & £100-Fine & he to lay out £300-in rebuilding the House.

Grant to Richd. Clark
of Small Termes at
Tibshelf


John Clark< no role > one of the Tenants who had agreed for a Lease of a
small Farm at Tibshelf having dyed before the Lease was made We
have agreed to let the same to his Brother Richard Clark< no role > on the same terms
as the former Agreement.

Grant to Mr. Lake


We have Granted to Mr. William Lake< no role > a Lease of a House in the High
Street of the Burrough of Southwark near the Hospital for 21 Years
from Michas 1735 at £40 P ann rent The House to be put into good re-
pair by the Hospital.

Cart to Mr. Abbis


We have Granted to Mr James Abbis< no role > a Lease of the House wherein
he dwells in the High Street aforesaid for a term of 21 Years from Michas
1735. at £50. P ann rent & to allow him a Quarters Rent towards
putting the House into Repair.

New lease to Wm. Boyce
who married Margt. Smith


Margaret Smith< no role > one of the Hospital Tenants of an house in the
Old Bailey having married with one William Boyce< no role > before she had
sealed a Counterpart of her Lease We have at their request order'd a new
Lease to be made to the said Boyce.

Allowance to Mr. Swaine
for in Damage done him by
the [..] pest in Janry 1734.


Mr. Nicholas Swaine< no role > the Hospital Tenant at Comb Grove
Farm in Kent who holds under a Lease at £86..- P ann Rent having ac-
quainted us that great damage had happen'd at the said Farm by the blowing
down some of the Buildings & damaging others, and that he had also suffered
greatly by the spoiling of his Corn & other Effects by the extraordinary Simplest in
January 1734. and desired our consideration thereof; we thereupon caused the
said Damages to be view'd & examin'd into and directed him to get such
Building as were blown down rebuilt, & the other damaged Buildings repair'd
which being done we found the Charge thereof amount to £179.- besides
rough Timber on the Farm of about £50.- value allow'd by the Hospital
according to the Terms of the Lease And We also found that the said Tenant
had really suffered very much by the spoiling his Corn & other Effects, therefore
in regard to such a particular & unavoidable Calamity we thought it reason
able to allow the said Tenant One Year & one Quarters Rent amounting to
£107..10..- towards the Charge of the said Rebuildings & Repairs.

Allowance to Mr. Page
towards Repairs.


We being informed that Mr. John Page< no role > the Hospital Tenant for the House
called the Windmill in Newgate Markett had laid out considerably more in re-
pairing the said House than he was obliged to by his Lease We thought it
reasonable to allow him on his Request a Quarters Rent being £6..5..-
towards such Repairs.

Orders for building &
House on the North
side of St. Thos. Street


Several Houses belonging to the Hospital Estate on the North
side of St. Thomas's Street & adjoyning to part of this Hospital being very ruinous
& incapable of repair & We being able to make very little of the Ground. We
found it necessary for the Service of the Hospital to pull down the Same &
to build eight Houses upon the said Ground according to a Plann which
we caused to be prepared by Mr. John Dawson< no role > a Surveyor , and divers
Builders having given in Proposals to us for undertaking the Buildings
We found a Proposal made by Mr Lawrences Neale< no role > a Carpenter to be the
lowest, & thereupon we contracted with him, for the Clearing the Ground &
building such new Houses for the Sum of £1280..-allowing him the old
Materials, and the said new Buildings are now carrying on.
