hath but three years to come at midsomer 1681: wee think it best to treat with an
buy out the termes of the tenant or tenants of the three Shopps in Lease, and
that being effected which wee judge may bee easily done be cause if they refuse
to accept reasonable Sattiffaccon theHospitall cannot be blamed in bearing
them to Shift for themselves in defence of the Indictments to Wee are of oppinion
according to the ancient example of our prudent predecessors in the Governomt:
of this house in taking away some part of the Wards to in large the said Pitm [..]
house and the late addicon since the said fire to Mr: Balams house That there
may be taken out of the two wards lying next behind the said shopps soe much
ground as may make the remainder of the said shopps Twenty foote for the
depth of an house and the front of all the shopps being about thirty Seaven
foote there may two convenient Brick Tenements bee erected that wilbee
about Eighteene foote square within the Walls Which bee built with brick
for about three hundred pounds and will then as wee beleive (on good ground
be Worth twenty five pounds P Annu and more a piece, and by the doing of
this the Hospitall will not bee exposed to any greater danger of fire then now it
18 and there will not bee above twelve Bedds lesse in both the said wards which
alsoe may bee Supplyed by the use or addicon of some other bedds in some back wards
Where bedds are either not used or more may bee put upp, as occasion and the revenue
of the house will permitt and require

All which neverthelesse wee humbly Submitt to the grave wisdom [..]

Which being read and duly considered of, was allowed and approved by this Court
and ordered to bee entered amongst the Acts of this Court And that if bee referred
to the said Committee to put the Same in execucon with all convenient speed.

Report of damage
be fire in St. Tho:
parish in June.
1681.

The said Committee alsoe made the Court acquainted in Writing with what
houses belonging to this Hospitall and by whom held from and under us were
burnt downe or otherwise considerably Dammaged in the late fire which
happened in the Parish of St: Thomas on the Seaventh or Eighth of June last which
writing is hereunder written.

By the late Fire which happened in Mr: Watermans House or Warehouse in
St. Thomas Pish the 8th: day of June last the Tenements hereunder mencon
belonging to the Hospitall were Burnt destroyed or damaged as followeth (vizt.)

The said Watermans house was wholly Burnt downe; hee paid a fine
of five and forty pounds in Anno 1677; and was bound to lay out £150: in
new building which hee laid out accordingly; His Lease was made for 41:
years from Midsumer 1677: Soe 37: years to come at midsumer last Rent £1:2s:0d

The Executor: of Angelo Stoner held Two houses which were Burnt downe
the Lease expires Lady day 1686: Soe but 5: years to come

Mr: Tho: Hatchett< no role > held with other considerable things 4: Tenements that
Were burnt downe lately built by his Tenant Dayla Caterton, Mr. Hachett
hath 36: years to come at Michaelmas next the sent of those burnt is charge
£1:10s:0d P Ann in the Rentall

Mary Smart< no role > held 5: houses all late built be her under tennant one
Humphry Smith< no role > by Lease which expires Michas 1696: the Lease was made
for 24: years for £20: Fine and £4:8s:0d: Rent

Ann Webb< no role > held Seaven houses by two Severall Leases six of the houses are
burnt and the other extreamly Shattered one of the Leases expires of Michas
1700: and the other at Lady day 1702: And one Lease reserves 44s: Rent and
the other 22s: Which is together in the Lease with the Rent of the Shopp into
High Streete ; One Holllibush is Sub tenant for all those houses to Mrs: Webb

day 1685: Two of the houses & Shedd are Soe Shattered as must be new built; The [..]
is five pounds

Mr: Edmd: Farding< no role > held a tenemt: wchis alsoe burnt downe & was demiss
to him with another tenemt: in this Pish by Lease wherein 30. years was to com
at midsumr: last 1681 this burnt house is charged with xxs: Rent & Annu
and ijs: tyth.
