Since the Recet: of yor. Letter of 23d: May last to Mr Treasurr:
there has been a Grand Commee of Govrs: & I am directed to acquaint you
That as it has been always usual for the Tents: of this Estate to receive
the Acknowledgemt: for the benefit of the Sluice, They saw no reason
to depart from that Custom in the present Case And Twas Apprehended
that you understood this to be their Sentiment at the time that Mrs. Collier
was in Treaty for the new Lease But at the same time I would
inform you, Sir, That the Govrs. having reserved to themselves the sole
Power of permitting you this Benefit You are thereby rendred
intirely Independent of the Tent: & may rest perfectly satisfyed that
you will enjoy the Liberty without any Interruption as long as no
Inconvenience accrued therefrom to the Hospital's Tenant which is
not in the least apprehended from a Gentleman of Mr: Barrett's Rank
& Character.
