Whereas upon reading the humble peticon & appeale of William Collier< no role > Joseph Birch< no role > Richard
Claridge
< no role > , William sharpe< no role > David Minnell< no role > James Chawell< no role > & John Pither< no role > Inhabitants of the
parish of St. James Clerkenwell in this County on behalfe of themselves & other Inhabitants of
the said parish exhibited unto this Court setting forth that they being credibly informed that John
Fuller
< no role > & Benjamin Hilton< no role > Esqrs . two of his Maties. Justices of the peace for the said County inhabiting
in & neare the said parish of St. James Clerkenwell did by an order under their hands dated
the twenty third day of April instant require Mr. Tobias Gibson< no role > Mr. Ralph Kingston< no role >
Churchwardens and Mr. John Hocker< no role > Mr. Thomas Bennett< no role > Anthony Best< no role > & John walpoole< no role >
overseers of the poor of the said parish of St. James Clerkenwell within four days after the end
of their yeare &afteafter other Overseers were nominated in their room to make & yeild up
unto them a true & perfect accompt of all sumes of money by them reced or rated & sessed
& not reced and alsoe of such stock as should be in their hands or in the hands of any of the poor
to worke and of all other things concerning their said office, which accompt they have refused to
make to the said Justices, but instead thereof have procured their accompts to be passed & allowed
by Lawrence saint Lo< no role > & Jeffery saunders< no role > Esqrs. two of his Maties. Justices of the peace for the said
County who doe not live neare the said parish of St. James Clerkenwell and who (as the Petr.
have been credibly informed) have owned that they were surprized in the allowing the said
accompts, and did not look or inspect into the same before they signed the [..] allowance
thereof, and have since erased or obliterated their names from the said allowance of the accompts
of the sd. Churchwardens & Overseers ofthethe poor or some or one of them, And that the Petrs. conceiveing
themselves aggreived in the premisses, and praying such releife therein as to this Court should seem
meet, It was ordered by this Court that the said Tobias Gibson< no role > Ralph Kingston< no role > John Hocker< no role > Thomas
Bennett
< no role > Anthony Best< no role > & John walpoole< no role > should attend this Court on this day to shew cause why they
should not forthwith make & yeild up to two of his Maties. Justices of the peace for this County dwelling
in or neare the said parish in Finsbury Division in the said County (Quorum unus) a true &
perfect accompt of all sumes of money by them reced or rated & sessed & not reced and alsoe of
such stock as is in their hands or in the hands of any of the poor to worke & of all other things
concerning their sd. office according to the forme of the statute in such case made & provided, Now
upon hearing of what was insisted on by the Petrs. & alsoe by Mr. Corbett of Councell for the sd. Tobias
Gibson
< no role > Ralph Kingston< no role > John Hocker< no role > Thomas Bennett< no role > Anthony Best< no role > & John Walpoole< no role > This Court is of
opinion that the allowance of the aforesaid accompts by the sd. Lawrence saint So< no role > & Jeffery saunders< no role > who
both live at a great distance from the said parish of St. James Clerkenwell is wholly irregular, there being
one Justice of the peace dwelling in the sd. parish & severall other Justices of the peace dwelling in the
parishes adjoyning thereto, And It appeareing to this Court that the allowance of the said accompts by the sd.
Lawrence saint Lo< no role > & Jeffery Saunders< no role > was gained by surprize It is thought fit and ordered by this Court
that such allowance be and the same is hereby sett aside & vacated, And It is further ordered by this
this Court that the said Tobias Gibson< no role > Ralph Kingston< no role > John Hocker< no role > Thomas Bennett< no role > Anthony Best< no role >
& John walpoole< no role > doe forthwith attend two of his Maties. Justices of the peace for this County dwelling in
or neare the said parish of St. James Clerkenwell (Quorum unus) with a true & perfect accompt of
all sumes of money by them reced or rated & sessed & not reced and alsoe of such stock as is in
their hands or in the hands of any of the poor of their said parish to worke & of all other things concerning
their said office according to the direccon of the statute in such case made & provided upon paine of
being proceeded against in such manner as the law directs,
