Order Concerning the
House of Corr & New prison
Etc.}

Upon reading the Report of Vignus Edwards< no role > Paul Mankay< no role > Xtopher
Scott and Saunders Welch< no role > Esquires being of the Commee of his
Majestys Justices of the Peace for this County who met at Hicks Hall
on Tuesday the first day of May instant on the Affairs of this County
setting forth that the said Committee are of Opinion that the Men and
Women confined in Clerkenwell Bridewell should be kept entirely
seperate not only in the night but all the Day also, And that the
Session should appoint a Commee to view how & in what Manner
that might be done and to calculate the Expence And that the said
Commee are of Opinion that the Commee appointed on Tuesday after
every Session on who shall at any other time view or enquire
into what relates to the House of Correction be desired to inform
themselves from the Prisoners what sort of Beds are provided for
them and whether they are incommoded by any Sort of Vermin as
has in print been asserted And that the Keepers of the House of
Correction and new Prison ought hereafter to give in every Session
a more full & perfect Calendar And that the Keeper of the House of
Correction having informed that said Commee that by the late
Act of Parliament he has been obliged to pay for the Winder
Lights belonging to the House of Correction the Committee
submits to this Court whether he ought not to be Allowed such
Payment It is Ordered by this Court that it be and it is hereby
recommended and referred to Bartholomew Hammond< no role > Ralph

and such other of his Majestys Justices of the peace for the said
County as shall think fit and any three more of them to meet
as a Committee as Hicks Hall on Thursday next being the 24th.
Instant at ten of the Clock in the forenoon to go to the House of
Correction at Clerkenwell and also to New Prison there to View and
Examine how and in what Manner the same Erisons may be
altered and made Convenient for Keeping the Men and Women
confined therein seperate and apart from each other as
recommended
