Representation against
Samuel Newton< no role > Esqr }

We his Majties: Justices of the Peace for the County of Middx in Generall Sessions
assembled being very sensible that the impartial Administration of Justice doth very
much conduce to the safety of his Majties. Subjects & to the Securing of Peace & tranquility
within the said County, & that indirect practices & irregular proceedings of any Justices
of the peace within the same do very much tend to the Subversion of Publick Justice
Doe humbly crave leave to make the following representation to yer. Lopps against Samuel
Newton Esqr one of the Justices of the Peace for the said County in manner following (Vizt.)

That it appeareth by the Calender delivered into this Court at the General Sessions held in
December last by the Keeper of his Majties. Goal of New Prison at Clerkenwell in the said
County of Prisoners Committed to the said Prison that the said Mr. Newton did by three severall
Comitments comit three men charged by the said Comitments for several Roberies, Whereas by the
Laws of England all Offenders in Capitall Cases must be comitted to the County Goal and of
which the said Mr. Newton has been informed by this Court, upon former failures of his of the like
Nature To the Rt. Honble: the Lords Comrs: for Custody of the Great Seal of Great Britain
May it please your Lordpps By one of his said Comitments dated the 31th. day of October last one Edward Lloyd< no role > was charged
in Custody on the Oath of Mary Baxter< no role > Adams for violently assaulting and knocking her down in
the Night time and Robbing her of two shillings in Silver and brass & untill further Examinaton,
and the said Mr. Newton did on the first day of November being the next day by writing under his hand
discharge the said Edward Lloyd< no role > alledging therein that it then appeared he was not the
Person a true Copy of the said Comitment and discharge being thereunto annexed whereby
it is evident that either an innocent Person is charged with a Notorious Crime or a
Notorious Criminall discharged without legall process

And it further appeareth unto us that the said Mr. Newton did on the fourteenth day of November
last Grant his Warrant for the apprehending Francis Watlin Ann Smith< no role > and Mrs. Roper on
the Complaint of Joseph Smith< no role > (vizt.) against the said Francis Watlin< no role > for feloniously Stealing
from him diverse parcells of Spun Worsted of a Considerable Value, against the said
Ann Smith< no role > for receiving it from her to sell knowing it to be Stolen and against the said
Mrs. Roper for buying it from the said Ann Smith< no role > upon a Violent Suspition of knowing it to
be Stolen and by Indorsment on the back of the said Warrant it appears that the said Francis
Watlin was Comitted to Newgate, And it further appears that the said Mr. Newton did by a
Supersedeas bearing date the Sixteenth day of the same Month of November Supersede
