Thomas Newby< no role > of Fooley Street Southwark Merchant Maketh Oath
and saith that he was bound by recognizance to prosecutes one Peter
Verrier at the Session to be hold for the City of London in October last for
picking this Deponents pocket of a Snuff box and this Deponent
Further saith that he is proprietor of a ship called the Favourite and
that same short time after he was so bound by recognizance and before
the said Session began the ship of which he is proprietor having
taken a prize and brought her into portsmouth Harbour [..]
[..] this Deponent was under the necessity of imediately giving for there
the purpose of searching for her papers and taking the other necessary
stops in order to his Condemnation and this Deponent further
saith that he was in hopes that he should have done his business
there time enough to return and prosecute the said Peter verrier< no role > in
pursuance of his said recognizance and that he made all possible
has to for that purpose but found on his arrival in Town the
Sessions had ended two days before and this Deponent saith that
he did not neglect to prosecute the said Peter verrier and of any
favour on affection on off any reward a hope on promise thereof

Bailey the 21st. day of October 1778 }
