Indictment sets forth That Deft. Sarah Mathews< no role > late of London Widow otherwise Sarah
Mathews< no role > Wife of John< no role > otherwise Thos< no role > . otherwise Wm. Mathew< no role > late of London Labourer or
the 14th. day of June in the 24th Yrs. of his Psent Majesty and continually afterwds. untill the
13th Day of August in the year afsd. wth. force and Arms at the Pish of St. Bridget otherwise
Brides in the Ward of Farringdon without in London afsd. did keep & maintain a certain ill
governed & disorderly house and in her sd. house for her own Laire & gain certain evil & ill disposd.
Psons as well Men as Women of evil Name fame & conversation to frequent & come together
then & divers other Days & times during the time afsd. there unlawfully did wilfully cause & procure
& the sd. Psons in the sd. house at unlawfull times as well in the Night as in the day then &
there to be & remain tippling whoring & misbehaving themselves unlawfully & willingly did Pmit
To the great damage & Comon Nusance of all the Liege Subject of our sd. Lord the King & agt.
the peace of our sd. Lord the King his Crown & Dignity.

The Deft. has pleaded not Guilty
Case

The Deft. hept this house in Wine office Court Fleet Street which was a very great
Nusance to that Neighbourhood from ye. Many Riots & disorders that were committed there
at all times of ye. Night and from ye. indecent behaviour of ye. Women belonging to this
house to ye. people passing by as well in ye. day time as ye. night

On ye. 13th Augst. on a Riot being in ye. Defts. house She & anr. Woman were taken
out of if & carried ye. next day before ye. Setting Aldn. at Guildhall who committed her to the
Counter & on ye. representation of the very great danger & Nusance of this house ye. Court of
Aldermen made an Order for Deft. to be Prosecuted at ye. Citys Expence.

To prove the frequent Riots in Defts. house. call Saml. Orange< no role > Watchman who
was in her house 13th Augst.
& carried her to ye. watch house
