George Brownsworth< no role > of Red Syon Street Clerkenwell
in the County of Middlesex Salesman Maketh Oath and
Saith that one Robert James< no role > alias Williams otherwise
Durnford came to him on or about the Nineteenth day
of October One Thousand Seven hundred and forty Eight
and prelanded to be the Brother of one Stephen James< no role > of
Fivelead near shaftsbury in the County of Dorset who then
Deponent hath for same time past been concerned for in
selling. sheep and other goods 5 is a person of great
worth & Good Character and from the Circumstances of the
Stay the said Robert James< no role > otherwise Williams otherwise
Durnford then told, this Diponent was prevaileder to
let him have ten Guineas for which he gave him a not [..]
payable upon Demand with name of Robert James< no role >
beleiving him to be Brother to the said Stephen James< no role >
until this Deponent received a Letter from the said
Stephen James< no role > Dated Febuary the latly 1749 informing
him that his name was Robert Durnford< no role > and was not
his Brother but a notorious Cheet and this Deponent
further saith he lath not since the time said Durnford
[..] obtained the said Money seen the said
Durnford till monday the twenty Sixth Day of February
last when he had him before the sitting alderman
at Guild Hall a who [..] to for the
said offerne But this Deponents material witnesse
living at the Countray at least four score Miles off he
was not able to have them up this Lopious to
Prefer a Bill against said Durnford for this offane
but Expects to hear them here next sessions and
will then Prefer the same.
