The Exaiacon and Confession of Edwd.

Lord Major of the City of London this
xvijth. day of February 1691

Who being Examined, confesseth That he having but acquainted
with Valetin Knight< no role > in the way of his trade, he told this Examint.
That if they did take A Lodging in the house of Peter Daniell< no role > in
Crown Court in Charles Street in Westminster , he beleived
there was A good Booty to be had, And that they might make
an hundred pounds A piece. And upon this the said Valentin
& this Examinant on the 19th. of November last went & tooke
A Lodging at the said Mr. Daniells, where they lay that
night, And the next night the said Knight desired [..]
[..] one Thomas Grainger< no role > (who was reported to have bin A
Leave Sent. of A ship) to lodge with them as was pretended
which sd. Thomas Grainger< no role > came along with this Examinant & brought with him A piece of Iron
to wrost open A door with. And presently after they were
All come into their Room, up two pair of Stairs, Pceiving yere
were no Psons above Stairs ye sd. Knight & Grainger
(desiring this Examinant to stay in ye Room) went & open'd
ye door of the next Chamber on the same Floor (being
lockt) & imediatley after return'd into their Chamber
& brought with them, A Gold fringe Scarfe for an officer,
A Silver Salver, A large Silver Tankard, A Silver Cup
two Silver Spoons, A pair of Pistolls, A black Silk hood or
Scarse: Two pair of laced Ruffles & A laced Craba, & A
Case of knives, All which goods the said Knight Grainger
& this Examinant carryed off & tooke away with them that
Evening about Six A clock, And then went to an Alehouse
in Holborn , from whence, the sd. Graniger went to see
for A Pson to buy the said goods but not meeting with ye
Pson as he expected, It was Agreed amongst them
That the sd. Knight should take home the sd. goods to his
Lodging for that night, which he accordingly did, And the next
Morning, All the Plate (except the Cupp & two Spoons,
which the sd. Grainger tooke to himselfe) was sold to one
William Griffith< no role > & his wife in Plum tree Court at Holbourn
Bridge for four shillings & four pence an ounne amounting to Seaventeen pounds eleaven shillings, And then
scrafe they sold to one William Gear< no role > in the Mint in Southwarke for
four pounds two Shillings & six pence; which money were Shared
amongst them, share & share alike; But ye Pistolls ye sd.
