Declaration immediately went to Mr. Frenches House
to inquire if he had lost a Sheep but Mr. French being in
the Country no positive Answer cod. be given althos Mr.
French's Servant came & looked at the Skin & said he
really beleived it was mark'd with the same Mark that
his Master always used & also said that he thought it wod.
be the best Way to make the best & most he cod. of such Sheep
that the Prisoner came again to him in the Afternoon to
inquire if he had sold such Sheep when he charged him
with a Constable & brought him before a Magistrate

George Collins< no role > for himself saith that he lives Servt.
with George Clarke< no role > a Butcher the Corner of Princes
Street Red Lyon Street Holborn that the Prisoner Wm.
Layton brought a Sheep to his Masters Shop on or about
the 17th. Day of August Instant in the Evening in order to
be killed & which he accordingly did kill that the Prisoner
brought three more Sheep at the same Time & asked him
to let them be there till next Morning wch. he did & the
Prisoner next Morning came and fetched them away

John Deely for himself saith that he is Servant to
Robert French< no role > a Butcher in little Charlotte Street
Rathbone Place that George Clarke< no role > a Butcher the Corner
of Princes Street Red Lyon Street Holborn came to his
Masters House on Tuesday Morning the 18th. Day of August
Instant & inquiredandif Mr. French was at House
that he informed him his Master was gone into the
Country & wod. not return of a Week or longer that sd.
Clarke then said he was come about a Sheep that had
been lost wch. the Prisoner William Layton< no role > brought to
his House the Eveng. before & said it had been bought
