taken and made on Oath this 10th. day
of February 1785
.
This Informant on his Oath saith that he is a Watchman in
the Liberty of Moorfields
Shoreditch
in the said County That on
Wednesday Morning last the 16th. Instant about a Quarter past
sixin the Morningthis Informantbeing uponGoing from his Duty as a
Watchman in Moorfields
and goingdown Crown Alley
thereand
hearing a Noise in an unhabited House in Crown Alley aforesaid
he stopt to see what it was and looking [..] in at the two pair
of Stairs Window he [..] perceived two Men (who are Joseph Lee< no role >
and John Cox< no role >
the Prisoners now under Examination) That this
Informant and another person who was with Informant called
out to the Men who were in the House and asked them what
they were about; upon which both the men made a hallowing
and soon afterwards came out of the House throughthata
hole which had been made in the Wall. That this Informant
then enquired who and what they were and suspecting they
had been attempting to steal some of the Gutter Lead from the
Top of the House he took them into Custody. That then this
Informant went up Stairs to the Roof of the House and there
Perceived that about a Yard in length of the Gutter Lead had
been ripped or cut and almost severed from the other [..] Lead
upon the Top of the House and this informant verily
believes that the said Joseph Lee< no role >
and John Cox< no role >
had cut
and ripped the said Lead with Intent to steal the same
