Carpenter of the Amilyn Desire a Collier
now lying at Deptford Captain Reid
Commander [..] Taken this 17th. day of
November 1783 before us two of his
Majestys Justices of the Peace in and
for the said County.

Who being upon Oath Saith that between Ten
and Eleven OClock on Thursday night last being then
at Wapping new Stairs Two Watchman who were at the
Landing asked him if he wanted a Skuller when he
told that he did to put him on Board his Ship Nancy
which lay Opposite to the above Stairs. That he then
agried with them to give them three pence to put him
Off. and went into the Beat but had not get the
distance of between Twenty and Thirty yards from
the Shore and About the same distance above the
Stairs when the sher [..] of the said Two Men Putted out
assisted from underneath his Jacket of the left side Put
it else against his Forehead drew< no role > the Grigger so that it Flasket
and had it went Off must inevitably turn Killed him, at
which Instant he said to Informant Deliver your
Mony or Fl Blow your Brains out. That he then
took from his right hand Breeches Pocket Tur Guineas in
Gold and two Shillings in Silver as also his Watch out
of his Feb. That Informant being then much agitated
and in great Ferror requested of them to Spare his life
to which they replied that if he did not go out of the
Boat without Speaking a Word he should he a Dead Man
By this time they had Rowed the Boat towards the Shore
again, and Informant desired them to let him go out
guilty and he woulds, that he then got up I having been
Seated all the time abovementioned) in order to be ready
to go out of the Boat so soon as it should come near so the
