John Clack< no role > on the Bock of it said" it was as good a Bill as any
in England". That this Informant told said Clack that he had not
Money to change said Bill, but which said Bill of Exchange this
Informant kept and Lett him a Phaeton, a Pair of Horses and a
Saddle horse the next Day to go to Barnett, and which he returned
with at night. That the next day (being Monday) this Informant
sent the said Bill of Exchange to the Victualling Office by a Friend
to enquire whether said Thomas Lorkin< no role > belonged there, who returned
and told this Informant that one Thomas Lorkin< no role > had been
employed there but that he had been dismissed from thence
about three years before on account of Bills and Notes. That
said Clack on the Tuesday following sent for the Phaeton and Horses again,
but this Informant refused to let him have them. That this
Informant hath made strict enquiry after Thomas Smith< no role > the
Drawer of said Bill in George Street Spittlefields , but could find
no such Person That on Friday last this Informant out went to
the House of Thomas Lorkin< no role > now present in Castle Sheet Leicester
Fields , where he saw said Thomas Lorkin< no role > and Shewed him the said
Bill of Exchange who took a Copy of it. That said Lorkin told
this Informant that the Body of the Bill, was his Hand-writing and
that he drew the Bill to accomodate Mrs. Middleton and to Keep
up his Credit, and that the Indorsement [..] ''Thomas Lorkin< no role > '' was
his Hand-writing. And the said John Partridge< no role > says that he was
present with said Francis Calvert< no role > at said Lorkins's house, and
heard him say what is before adduced by said Francis Calvert< no role > .
And the said Elizabeth Whitmore< no role > says that she is well
acquainted with the Hand-writing of the said Richard Middleton< no role > ,
that she has carefully examined the Bills of Exchange now produced
and [..] is very sure that the name "Richd. Middleton" (as Drawer
of said Bill) [..] or any other Part of it, is not the Hand-writing
of Richard Middleton< no role > now present And the said Richard Middleton< no role >
