The Examination of Mary Wilds< no role > of Hollywell Street in the Parish of
Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the County aforesaid Spinster taken before us [..]
David Wilmot< no role > and William Gasceigne< no role > Esqrs. [..] two of his Majesties Justices of the peace for the said
County this 9th December 1772

This Examinant saith that on sunday last Between the hours of Four and
Five oClock in the afternoon she met with Joseph Harrison< no role > and John Mitcheler< no role > in Long
Lane West Smithfield And this Examinant siath she went into the white Swan in
Shoreditch in the County aforesaid and said Harrison and Mitcheler forced her to
Drink Several Drahms with them And this Examinant saith that she came from
the White Swan Between five and Six oClock the same Evening and being forced thro. the
Several Street in the way to Bethnal Green she cried out and calld for assistance
when Several people came to her and Enquired the Reason of this Examinants being
used in such a manner when said Harrison and Mitcheler passed it off with a Smiler
saying this Examinant was their Sister but being rather Stufid [..]
Liquorwith Drinking ratter too much Liguor at a Friends house, she was
Obstiuate and would not go house but the people who came to this Examinants
assistance seened to Pitty her, said Harison and Mitcheller then Danmed
them and told them they had nothing to do with this Examinant she was
their Sister and they had a Right to do has they pleased pretending they were [..]
Making the nearest way home with her they could, they brought this
Examinant near a Field at Bethnal Green in the County aforesaid which was
about Eight oClock the same Evening when they Seized her and Carried her
into a Fielda Fieldand said Herrison with force laid her Down upon the Ground
and Committed a Rape upon her Body and Carually Knew her against her
Will and Consent in the mean [..] he Mitcheler held her, when Harrison had
had his Ends of this Examinant Mitcheler Committed a Rape [..]
upon her in the manner aforesaid when Harrison then assisted Mitcheler and
When they had got their Ends so far of this Examinant Harrison Pullda knife
out of his Pocket and cut her Stays from off her Body took them from her
and one Gournd [..] two Petticoats one Handkerchief one Check Apron one pair
of Leather Shoes one Shift and one pair of Iron Buckles Cut not being
Contented with such Barbarity they then [..] Cruelly beatherthis
Examinant [..] and left her Naked; there, she Continued for three hours
not being able to get up, but this Examinant hearing one of the Watchmen
belonging to the Parish of Saint Matthew Bethnal Green she cried out when
the Watchman came to her Assistance took her to the Watch [..] house and
Comprted this Examinant in the best manner he was able by Wrapping his
great Coat Round her and taking her to her Usuall Place of abode
