St. Andrews Holbourn Febry 5. 1770 Touching the Death of
William Burroughs< no role >

Elizabeth Adams< no role > Widow that she hath lodged in the House where
the Deceased lies dead about Six Months last in the Garret & the Deced
& the Woman he kept Company with lodged in the two pair of Stairs Room
underneath That she observed the Deced & his Companion Susannah
Bonnigham
< no role > were commonly quarrelling together They would both drink
He would Swear & curse & she cry out murder continually That last
Thursday Morning between nine & ten the woman came up to the
Witness & Informed the witness she wanted to speak to her & upon being
asked what she wanted she answered she was a dead Woman for she had
killed Burroughs about five o'Clock in the Morning with a Board which
he cut his Work upon being a Clogmaker Upon which the Witness turned
her out of the Room but she soon afterwards returned & informed the
Witness she had given him half a Pint of Gin & he was got into a sound
Sleep The Witness went into the Room & looked at the Deceased whose
Hand Face & Stomach were cold & the Deceased dead The Witness
came down Stairs in the Afternoon & informed Mrs. Mowbray & her two
Daughters who lodge in the Ground Room what she had observed up
Stairs They went up Stairs & found the Deceased dead The Witness says
she did not examine the Wounds

Mary Mowbray< no role > Widow Says she lodges in the lower Apartmt. &
upon being informed by Mrs. Adams what had happened above Stairs she
went up Stairs with her two Daughters into the Deceased's Room when
the Woman his Companion informed the Witness she had killed Mr.
Burroughs & desired her to go to the Bedside & see Says the Woman
upon being asked what she killed him with she went to the Window
where worked & took up the Board he worked upon & sayd that was
the Board she killed him with Says she did not examine his Wounds
but saw him dead
