An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord the King at the parish
of Saint John within the Borough of Southwark in the County of Surrey on the third day
of January in the thirty ninth year of the regin of our Sovereign Lord George the third
King of Great Britain and so forth before Thomas Shelton< no role > Gentleman Coroner of our said
Lord the King for the City of London and Borough of Southwark on view of the body of
John Strickland< no role > now here lying dead by the oath of William Sage< no role > , John Ridge< no role > ,
Richard Hough< no role > , Joseph Blackstone< no role > Thomas Downing< no role > , Thomas Ford< no role > , John Burton< no role > James
Turner,
John Terrey< no role > , Charles Lyall< no role > , John Huddebull< no role > , John Watts< no role > , William Liddard< no role > ,
and William Wigmore< no role > , good and lawful men of the Borough and County aforesaid
who being now here duly chosen sworn and charged to inquire for our said
Lord the King when how and in what manner the said John Strickland< no role > came to his
death say upon their oath that the said John Strickland< no role > on the thirty first day of December
in the year aforesaid accidentally casually and by misfortune fell into the River of
Thomas there situate and in and with the Waters of the said river was then and
there suffocated and drowned of which said suffocation and drowning the said John
Strickland did then and there die.And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their oath
aforesaid do say that the said John Strickland< no role > in manner and by the means aforesaid
accidentally casually and by misfortune came to his death and not otherwise
In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said William Sage< no role > the foreman of
the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his fellows in their presence have
to this Inquisition set their hands and seals the day year and place first above
written
