Southwark Depositions of Witnesses taken at
the Work house of Saint Olave in the
Parish of Saint John within the Borough of
Southwark this 31st. day of October 1797 on
view of the body of a Woman unknown now
here lying Dead

Nicholas Lewis< no role > Mate of the Sloop Providence of
Exeter in the County of Devon now lying at Toppings
Wharf in the parish of Saint Olave with in the Borough of
Southwark maketh Oath that about four oClock on Sunday
afternoon last Dept. being on Toppings Wharf which is
next to London Bridge heard several people on London
Bridge fallen out Dept. looked round and saw apersonWoman
in the Water about twenty yards from the [..] Tooley Stairs
which lead up to Toppings Wharf - Dept. went from the
Wharf over the Vessels that lay adjoining and got into a Boat
astern of one of the Vessels and pushed the Boat near to the
deced Dept. got hold of the deced and got her into the
Boat. That she was quite insensible and nearly dead only
breathed a little - Dept. took the Boat to the Shore - the deced
was taken out of the Boat to the Mitre public house
the nearest public house to the Stairs where Dept. left her
andsome Women being called into assist her. Dept has
been the deced this Evening which is the same person as
he took out of the Water as before stated -
