This Indenture made the Sixthday of Julyin the Seventh Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by
the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord
One thousand seven hundred and sixty seven Between John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > of Hoxton in the County of
Middlesex Gentleman of the one part and James Green< no role > and Thomas Hellam< no role > Church Wardens of the parish of Saint Dionis, Back church London and Peter Pope< no role > Richard James< no role >
Henry Newton< no role > and William San< no role > Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of the other part Whereas the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > have agreed to take the care of and to
maintain and provide for the Poor of the said Parish of saint Dionis Backchurch Upon the terms Conditions and Agreements herein after mentioned Now this Indenture
Witnesseth that the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > for the Considerations herein after mentioned Do hereby for themselves their Executors and Administrators covenant
promise and Agree to and with the said James Green< no role > and Thomas Hellam< no role > Church Wardens and Peter Pope< no role > Richard James Newton< no role > and William Lein< no role > Overseers and their
Successors Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish that they the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > their Executors or Administrators shall and will at their or one
of their own proper Cash and Charges from the day of the date of these Presents Weekly and every Week duly receive maintain and provide for in the House now occupied by them for Keeping of Poor
Persons situate at Hoxton aforesaid All and every such Poor Person and Persons belonging to the said Parish Except Lunaticks or Persons afflicted with the small Pox who from time to
time and at all times hereafter during the Continuance of this Agreement shall be sent to the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > at their House at Hoxton aforesaid by the said Church
Wardens and Overseers and their Successors for the time being with good wholsome and sufficient Meat Drink Washing Lodging Apparel of all sorts And all other Necessaries hit and requisite for
their Subsistence Cloathing and maintenance And also shall and will at their or one of their like Costs and Charges find provide and fully pay All and every the Charges of Apothecaries
Surgeons and Nurses that shall or may attend or be employd in and about such Poor Persons or Child or Children or in or about the Lying in of any Woman or Women during her or their
respective Month Except as herein after mentioned And Further that they the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > their Executors or Administrators shall defray the Expense of the
Funeral or Funerals of all and every such Poor Person or Persons and of the Baptising any such Child or Children And Also shall and will Indemnify and save harmless the said
Church Wardens and Overseers and their Successors and all and every the Parishioners of the said parish of and from all Damages Costs and Charges which they shall or may sustain or be put
unto in and about the premises And also shall and will at or upon the Discharge of every Poor Person belonging to the said Parish out of the House of the said John Hughes< no role > and
William Phillips< no role > permit and suffer every such Poor Person to take and carry away to and for his her and their Own Use and Uses all Cloaths both Linnen and Woollen and all other
things belonging to such Poor Persons Provided that they are the Cloathing first given to the said Poor Persons otherwise their Cloaths to be Charged on their leaving the House And also
that is shall and may be lawfull to and for the said Church Wardens and Overseers for the time being or any of the Parishioners of the said Parish at all seasonable and convenient
times during the Continuance of this Agreement to enter and cone into the House of the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > wherein the said Poor shall be kept thereto view and
examine the state and Condition of the poor belonging to the said Parish and into the Provisions Cloathing Management and care made and taken of and for the said Poor pursuant to
this agreement And the said James Green< no role > and Thomas Hellam< no role > Church Wardens and Peter Pope< no role > Richard James< no role > Henry Newton< no role > and William Lein Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish in Consideration of the premises do for themselves and their Successors Church Wardens and Overseers of the poor of the said Parish Covenant promise and Agree to and with the said
John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > their Executors and Administrators by these presents that they the said Church Wardens and Overseers and their Successors for the time being some or
one of them shall and will on the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > their Executors or Administrators well and truly performing the several matters aforesaid and not otherwise well
and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > or one of them their Executors or Administrators during the continuance of this Agreement at and
after the rate of four shillings per Week by the Head and so in proportion for any time less than a Week for all and every such Poor Person or Persons (not being lying in Women) which
shall be sent or committed to their care as aforesaid And also shall and will pay and allow unto the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > or one of them their Executors or Administrators
at and after the Rake of two pounds two shillings for the Month Including the said Sum of four shillings Per Week for every lying in Woman all Charges also included unless there should be
a Necessity of Employing a Man Midwife or Surgeon and then and in such case the Frees of such Man Midwife or Surgeon shall be paid by the said Church Wardens and Overseers or their
Successors for the time being And also shall and will pay and allow unto the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > or one of them their Executors or Administrators the Sum of ten
Shillings for every poor Person put into the house with the Itch and the Sum of twenty Shillings for defraying the Charges of the Burial of every poor Man or Woman and the Sum of fourteen
Shillings for th Burial of every Child belonging to the said Parish under the Age of seven Years which shall happen to die under their Care during the Continuance of this Agreement And for
the Christning of each Foundling two Shillings And also shall and will pay and allow unto the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > or one of them their Executors or Administrators
the Sum of one pound Eighteen shillings on their Cloathing every poor Man And the Sum of One pound fifteen shillings and three pence on their Cloathing every poor Woman belonging to the
said Parish And on their Cloathing every Poor Child belonging to the said Parish such Sum or so much money as is Usual or Customary to be paid according to his or her age which said
payment or allowance for Cloaths as aforesaid is to be made but once only for such Poor Persons and on their being first sent to the House of the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > as
aforesaid but by the Order or directions in Writing of the said Church Wardens and Overseers or some of them And which said Sum of four Shillings per Week by the Head for maintaining
and keeping such poor Persons and Children as aforesaid is to be and shall be paid by the said Church Wardens and Overseers and their Successors or some of them unto the said John
Hughes and William Phillips< no role > or one of them their Executors or Administrators at the four most usual feast-days or days of payment in the Year that is to say at Michaelmas Christmas day
Lady Day and Midsummer day Provided nevertheless And it it hereby declared and Agreed by and Between the said Parties to these presents that in care the said Payment or allowance
of four Shillings Weekly shall be reduced or abated, by the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > to any other Parishes whose poor shall be committed to their care That then such or the
same Reduction or Abatement shall be made or allowed by them to the said parish of Saint Dionis Backchurch whose poor shall be at all times treated or taken care of in the same manner and
upon the same Terms with such other Parishes And the said Church Wardens and Overseers for the Considerations aforesaid (as much as in them Lyeth and they Lawfully may) do consent and
Agree that the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > their Executors and Administrators shall and may receive and take to his and their own use and Benefit all the Profits that shall
or may accrue or arise from the lawful Labor of the said Poor without any Account to be made, rendred or given by them or either of them to the said Church Wardens or Overseers or their-
Successors or any of them during the continuance of this Agreement And it is hereby further declared and Agreed that all and every Poor Child and Children belonging to the said Parish
in the House of the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > shall be put or placed out Apprentice or Apprentices at the sole Charge and Expence of the said Parish when and in
what manner the said Church Wardens and Overseers for the time being shall think fit And It is hereby expressly Agreed that it either of the said parties shall be minded or desirous to determine
or make void these presents at any time hereafter and of such his or their mind and Intention shall give or leave three months notice or warning in writing to the other of them That then
and in such case it shall and may be lawful for them or either of them so to do And then and from thenceforth this present Indenture and every Matter and thing herein contained
shall cease determine and be utterly void any thing herein contained to the Contrary thereof in any wise Notwithstanding And Lastly for the true performance of the several
Covenants Articles and Agreements aforesaid on the part and behalf of the said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > or one of them to be observed performed and Kept Each of them the
said John Hughes< no role > and William Phillips< no role > Doth hereby bing and Oblige themselves their Heirs Executors and Administrators and every of them unto the said Church Wardens and
overseers of the poor of the said Parish and the Successors In the penal sum of Fifty pounds firmly by these Presents In Witness whereof the said Parties to these
presents have hereunto severally set their Hands and Seals the day and year first above Written.
