Articles of Agreement Indented had made Concluded and agreed upon the Eighteenth day of March
Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty one Between Richard Birch< no role > of Rose Lane in the Parish of Christ Church Spitterfields in the County of [..]
of the one part and Henry Newton< no role > and Captain William Wilds< no role > Church Wardens of the Parish of St. Dionis Back Church in the City of London George

< no role > John Perkins< no role > Robert Crafton< no role > and Richard James< no role > Overseers of the poor of the said Parish as follows that is to say
The said Richard Birch< no role > for himself his Executors and administrators and the said Church Wardens and Overseers for themselves and their Successors Church Wardens Overseers
of the poor of the said parish of St. Dionis Back Church Do hereby Naturally Covenant Promise and Agree to and with each other well and truly to a bide stand to perform and keep the following
Articles that is to say
Imprimis That he the said Richard Birch< no role > shall and will receive and take into his House In Rose Lane aforesaid all such poor persons as the said Church Wardens and Overseers shall
from time to time for the Term and Space of One Year to Commener from the firstday of MayEtc ensuing the date of these Presents think proper to send to him at the rate of Three Shillings per
Week for every grown person and at the rate of two Shillings and Six pence per week for every Child to be paid by quaterly payment to the first quarterly payment to begin and made on the
firstday of august next evening the date of these presents such poor persons being first properly Cloathes by the said parish at the time they are taken into the said House in manner following
that is to say The Men to have a Coat Waistcoat and pair of Breeches a Hat two pair of Shoes two Handkerchiefs two Shirts and two Woollen Night Caps The women to have a Gown two
petticoats two Caps two Handkerchiefs two Aprons two Shifts two pair of Base and two pair of Shoes and the Boys and Girls to have the same Cloathing as the Men and Women
That the said Richard Birch< no role > his Executors and Administrators shall and will at his and their own proper Costs and Charges find allow and provide for all such poor persons as aforesaid good wholsome
Sufficient and convenient Meat Drink Lodging Cloathing both Linnen and Woollen Firing Common physick and other Necessarys during the said Term the Victualls and Provisions to be found allowed and provided
for the said Poor in such manner as is mentioned in the Bill of Fare hereunder written unless the same shall hereafter be altered or Changed by the Mutual Consent of the said Partys to these Presents
That the Cloaths to be found and allowed by the said Richard Birch< no role > for such Poor persons to be such both in Quality and Quantity as they first shall come In to the said House with and the same Cloathing
to be found and allowed by him on the going outer removal of any or either of the said poor who shall have continued one whole Year in the said House But If any or Either of them shall be discharged or go
out before the Expiration of the said Year then such poor to go out with such Cloaths only as they shall them have Without any Addition whatsoever and in Case of Illness or Sickness where an Apothecary
Necessary the Expence thereof to be born and paid ny the said parish having first Notice thereof who are to Employ such Apothecary as they shall think fit
That If any Lunatick Person shall be But into the said House the Parish shall pay and allow the said Richard Birch< no role > for every such Lunatick the further allowance of One Shilling per Week over and
besides the said Three Shillings per Week herein before agreed upon but such as are Raving and not Capable of being Controuled are hereby always Excepted
That an allowance be made by the said Parish of Two Guineas for the Month for each Room an belonging to the said Parish who shall happen to Lye I win the said House in Satisfaction and discharge
of the Midwife and all other Expences Attending but in Case of Extremity where the Assistance of a Man Midwife is necessary such Extra Expences are also to be born and paid by the said Parish
That all Children belonging to the said Parish who shall be born in the said House shall be Babtiz'd at the parish Charge And all Men Women and Children belonging to the said Parish
who shall happen to six in the said House shall be Buried also at the said Parish Charge
That the Children shall be sent to School or tought to read and say their Catchlom according to the Church of England in the said House at certain Stated Hours every day and the remainder of
their time to be spent in such work and Employment as they are best Suites to and when they attain the age of Thirteen Years or thereabouts the said Richard Birch< no role > shall find and Provide proper
Services for them with the previous Consent and approbation of the said Church wardens and Overseers and their Successors and all the Charges according the placing out the Children to such
Services shall be born and paid by the said Parish
That all such poor who have been House keeper in the said parish shall have a separate Apartment from the Common poor and shall dirt by themselves or with others who have been House Keepers.
and the parish to allow for each such person the further Allowance of One Shillings [..] over and besides the said Three Shillings per Week herein before agreed upon
That such poor who shall fall sick or Same are to be kept in a separate apartments by themselves so as not to am [..] or Injure these that are well
That such persons (as the said Richard Birch< no role > shall think proper) be permitted to go to Church every Sunday both to Morning and Evening Service and not to go out of the House on any other
Pretence whatsoever Unless by an Order had for that purpose from the Church wardens of the said parish for the time being and If the said Church Wardens do give such Order then the said Richard Birch< no role >
is not to be answerable for any Consequence that may endue three from (that is to say) If they shoud pawn or make away with their Cloaths or Commit any other Irregularitys and in Case any or either
of the said poor shall Desert the said house for any considerable time they are not to be admitted again without a fresh Order signed by the said Church Wardens and being first properly Cloathed
again and all other Expences made good by the said Parish But If the said Richard Birch< no role > shall give leave or permit any of the poor of the said Parish to go out on any presence whatsoever or be
absent from the House be shall then be Obliged to make good their Cloathing and all other Expences that can be accounted for to the time they are taken in again
That the poor shall be kept to work by the said Richard Birch< no role > at such Employments as they are best Suites for and according to there several Capacitys and abilitys in the Opinion and
Judgement of the Church wardens and Overseers for the time being be the said Richard Birch< no role > allowing to each Person that works three Pence clear Profitt out of every Shilling they shall
respectively Earn and that all further profit and Advantage arising from their Labour in the said House is to be forth only life are Benefit of the said Richard Birch< no role >
That the Church Wardens and Overseers of the poor of the said Parish Do were by Reserve to themselves and Successors full Power at all times during the Continuance of this
agreement (to Enter the said House to Examine and see into the Management and Condition of the said poor and If properly taken care of and to have a convenient Room for their
Reception
That the said Richard Birch< no role > shall at all times during the Continuance of this agreement well and Effectually Save harmless and Indemnify the said parish of and from all
Suits Costs Charges Fines Damages and Expences whatsoever that may happen or Accrew touching or concerning the Premisses or any ways relating there to (Except as herein before
is agrees upon
That it shall be Lawfull for the said Partys to these presents to determine and make void the above Articles of Agreement on giving three Months Notice or Warming in writing
on either side for that purpose
And Lastly for the true performance of the several Covenants Articles and Agreements aforesaid on the part and Behalf of the said Richard Birch< no role > his Executors and
Administrators to be Observed performed and be Etc the said Richard Birch< no role > Doth hereby Bind and Oblige himself his House Executors and administrators in to the said Church
Wardens and Overseers of the poor of the said Parish and their Successors In the Penal Sum of One Hundred Pounds firmly by these presents In Witness whereof the said partys
to these presents have hereunto Interchargeably Sett their Hands and Seals the day and Year first above written
