Ware property

The Minutes of the last Vestry of the 10th. Septr. being read
and Confirmed, Mr. Maynard took notice that there had been
a Misunderstanding with the New River Company respecting
an Incroachment on the Meadow at Ware, he had therefore
applied to Mr. Milne the Surveyor and shew'd him a Copy of
the Original Purchase Deed belonging to the Parish, and had
been promised that the Stakes fixed on the Parish Estate should
be removed with out further Controversy.

Stove in Vestry
Room.

Mr. Maynard further observed that there had been no
occasion to erect a new Stove in the Vestry Room, but that the
old Stove and the Brick work had been put in compleat
Repair.

Mr. Church Warden Arch then acquainted the Gentlemen
present that this Vestry was held pursuant to public notice
given in the Church for the annual Election of Parish Officers
and on other affairs.

Time for
Church Warden

Philpot Lane
house

Mr. Pope then stood up and desired leave to make a
Motion previous to the Election of Church Warden, and said that
the Fine for Church Warden had been for a long time Forty
Pounds, which he Concerved was too high, and prevented many
Gentlemen from Fining: that as a sum of Money would be
required to pay for the Repairs of the House in Philpot Lane
on Lease to Mr. Theed, the same would probably be raised if the
Fine was lowerd without any Increase of Rates or Assessments
on the Inhabitants either to Church or Poor, and therefore
Moved that the Fine for Church Warden be lower'd to Thirty
Pounds, and was Seconded by Mr. Jutet.

This Motion was opposed by Mr. Maynard< no role > and other
Gentlemen who insisted that the same reasons that occasiond
the Fine to be raised in the year 1763 were still in force; that no
Gentlemen of Fortune would serve the Office of Church Warden if
they could be exempted on paying a small Fine; and that it would
be better for the Parish to raise Money by a Rate, or to borrow
a Sum for a time (if it should be found necessary upon the
Audit of the present Church Wardens Account) than to lower
the Fine. The Question being put on the said Motion. It
past in the Negative.

Church Wardens

Then Mr. Joseph Richardson< no role > was put up to serve the
Office of Upper Church Warden for the year ensuing and Chose
And Mr. Charles Robins< no role > was put up to Serve the Office of Under
Church Warden and Chose.

Collectors of
Poor Rate
Sidesmen

Mr. Samuel Hannay was put up and Chose one of the
Collectors of the Poors Rate and Sidesman But It was Ordered
that he be excused from serving the said Offices on payment
