The Committee take into
Conson the Commitment
to this Prison of Instants
& Sick Persons incapable
of Labour. It appearing to the Committee that great numbers of Sick Persons and
Infants utterly incapable of labor are sent to this Prison by the
Magistrates with an order that they remain here until there be room
for them at the Hospitals of Saint Thomas or St. Bartholomew illl
and that some of these unhappy wretches have lately died for want of
proper conveniences and assistance which this House does not afford.

And it appearing further to the Committee that such Commitments
are not only contrary to the Intent and Spirit of the Charter but
are also incompatible with the other objects of the Institution which
most particulary requires that all persons committed to this House
of correction be capable of and be employed in hard labor

Recommendation to
Court thereupon.Resolved that it be earnestly recommended to the Court that
the foregoing circumstances be properly represented to the Lord Mayor
and Court of Aldermen and that they be requested to confer with the
Governors of the two Hospitals as to the necessity of adopting some
measures for receiving immediately all such Patients as the Magistrates
may think proper to send.
