Elizabeth Grove< no role > Singlewoman maketh oath
that She well Knows a Child named John West< no role > aged about
eight Years and Nine Months which was born of the body
of Mary West< no role > This name instance is in set 3892. this Deponents Mother in the Prison of
Newgate in the Parish of St Sepulchre in the City of London
the Which Child (as this) Deponent has been informed by
her Said Mother & which this Deponent Verily believes to
be true) is illegitimate & a Bastard by reason that She this
Deponents Mother was never married to the Said Childs
Father That Such Child has not as yet done any Act to
gain a Settlement for himself That this Deponents
Sd Mother before & previous to her being Sent to the Said
Prison of Newgate (where She was So as aforesd delivered
rented a house of about Forty Pounds a year in Berkley
Square in the Parish of Saint George Hanover Square in
the Sd County of Middlesex & resided thereon for the Space
of a year or more to the best of this Deponents now
recollection from which Place She was Committed to
the Sd Prison of Newgate That after this Deponents
Said Mother was discharged from Such Prison
She went from thence lived in & rented a house (by the
name of Mary Grove< no role > ) in the New Buildings in
Leather Lane in the Liberty of Saffron Hill in
the Parish of Saint Andrew Holborn in the Said
County of Middlesex at the yearly rent of twenty
Pounds and Continued therein for the Space of three
Months & there died.


Sworn this 13. day of April
1786 before.
