That the Committee finding that the Lease of the Burying Ground for Bridewell Hospital
and Precinct would expire at Lady Day 1802
had requested the President and Treasurer to apply to his Grace the Duke of Dorset
with their first convenience in such manner as they should think proper either for an
extension of the Lease or for a purchase of the perpetuity.

And at a special Committee convened by the President for that purpose the Committee
were of opinion that the office of a Matron of Bethlem is highly important and
necessary, and having particularly examined the several Medical Officers and Steward
of Bethlem as to the requisite duties and qualifications of a Matron were of opinion
that the Duties of the Matron of Bethlem as already stated in the printed Book of
Rules and Orders Pages 45 and 46 connected with the other standing Rules
and Orders are prefectly proper and sufficient

And the Committee were further of opinion that the Matron ought to be a single Woman
not under 32 and not exceeding 40 years of Age having no Child of a good Moral
Character, Strong Active and healthy. one who can bear confinement and who is
not subject to lowness of spirits. That she should have 2 apartments as usual in the
Hospital with the provisions of the House and a Salary not exceeding £60 a year.
