Bridewell Hosptl Repairs to be done
in ye Chappell Lobby & Great Stayrs

Upon Reading a Report from the Comittee of this House bearing date the 20th day
of June 1750 under the hands of Edward Holloway< no role > Esqr . Trear Dr . Richd. Rawlinson< no role >
Thomas Carew< no role > Esqr . Phiereas Cheeke Esqr .Mr Saml John< no role > & Mr. William Cooper< no role >
as follows Vizt.This Comittee Viewed The Chappel The Lobby & Great Staircase
of this Hospital & by their Order the Workman have given in Estimates of the
following repairs to be done there Vizt

To Put 4 New Oak Stills in the South Window of the Chappel & 8 joins &
Muntins and New bearers under the Windows and make good the Cernishil Copeing &
repair the North & East Windows and the floor & Stops of the Stairs to the Gallery & the State
bearers and doors in the Chappel And to repair the Windows & make good the
Wainscott in the LobbyTo New line the Stairs in the Lobby with whole Deal an
each side Rail high and to make two pair of Foulding doors at the foot of the Stairs 8
feet wide and 7 feet high to be frained with two publicly allow Deal Bead flush on
both sidesfor with the Carpenter has given in an Estimate amounting to30 - -


To Scrape, Stop, and Whitewash the Ceilings & Walls & Sean & Amend the Bodd
Moulding & Cornishes for with the Plaisterer has given man Estimate of}14 - -


To Repair the Casements & Saddle Carrs in the New Windows and New bettom
the other Casements and mand the Latities for which the Smith has given in an
Estimate of
5 12 -


To Paint and Varnish the Chappel and the Window Inside and Outside
and the Iron Carrs, Casements & IrongatesAnd to Paint the Lobby and
Great Staircase for wch the Painter has given in an Estimate of
27. 4 -
Amounting together76 16 -

Which this Comittee think Necessary to be done but cannot make an Agreement for the
Same by reason of an Order of Court of the 30th. of Novr. 1739 that no Contract be made for
these Hospital exceeding in the whole £20 without Publishing the same as therein Inermined
which this Comittee think would begiving then an unneccessary Trouble without any benefit to
the Hospital therefore they desire the Direction of the Court therein And it is Ordered
that this be Reported to the next CourtThis Court haveing duly Weighed and
Considered the said Report doth order that the said repair be done and desire the
Comittee to Agree with the Workmen for the same

Upon Reading the humble Petition of Messrs. Whitaker and Smith of London
Merchants Setting forthThat the Petitioners Proposes to take a Lease of the Governors
with usual Covenants of two Mosses or Tenements Scituate in Lymestreet one on each
side the Gateway leading to Lymes street Square with a Coach House and Stable
Adjoining to the House South on the said Gateway for 21 Years from Michas next
at £30 P Ann rent payable quarterly at the Compting house at Bridewell Hospital
clear of all Taxes and to lay out £450 in Necessary RepairsBut if the
Governors will put the Premes into Tenantable repair then the Petitioners will
give £80 P Ann rent the Governors Allowing the Laid Tax And Praying a Lease
According to their said ProposalsIt is Ordered that the said Petition be
referred to the Comittee of this House to Consider thereof and Report their Opinion thereon
to the Court

Lincolnshire Estate
to be Viewed


This Court doth desire Mr. Trear with two or three of the Governors when he
thinks proper to go & View the Estate in Lincolnshire devised by Edward Barkham< no role > Esqr
for the use of the Incurables at Bethlem and to Report to this Court in what State and
Condition they fined the same.
