Upon reading the humble Petition of John Smither< no role > settingforthThat
he having built several new Houses in the Precinct of Bridewell Hospital
wherein the Tenants of the said Houses are making a dayly Complaint
that the Water rises in their Cellars and have given the Petr. notice
to leave their houses if they cannot be kept dry, but the said Houses
may be kept dry by Digging a Drain down Water street to run into
the Thames and praying the Governors to give him leave to make such
a DrainIt is Ordered that the said Petition be referred to the
Comee of this House who are desired to consider the same and report
their Opinion therein to the Court.

Upon reading the humble Petition of Edward Gibbs< no role > of the parish of St.
Botolph without Bishopsgate London Carpenter setting forth that he is
willing to take a Lease or Leases of ten Old Houses No. 7 & No. 8. in old
Bethlem adjoining to Mrs. Pattons on the East and on an Alley leading to
the Meeting house on the West with such Covenants as are usually containe
in the Hospital Leases for the term of 62 years to commence from Laday
next at the Kent of a Pepper Corn for the first two years and for the
remainder of the Term at the Yearly Kent of £40. clear of all Taxes
and to pay a Fine of £40. the Petr. agrees to pull down the said
ten Houses and to build Eight new Houses of Brick according to the
second rate of Building in London in their room three Story high and two
Rooms deep and to set back the Houses as the Comee shall direct and to
have all the back Ground that is not in the possession of the Exors of
Sr . Joseph Eyles< no role > and to build on the said back Ground Eight Single houses
and to execute a Counterpart of such Lease or Leases and to lay out
£1500 in such buildings and praying a Lease or Leases according to
his said proposalsAlso upon reading the Petition of Samuel
Steemson
< no role > of the parish of St. Luke Middx Carpenter for a Lease or
Leases of the same premisses for the term of 61 years from the
Expiration of the Lease in being at the Rent of a Pepper Corn for the
first year and for the remainder of the Term at the Yearly Rent of £30
clear of all Taxes and to pay a Fine of £150. and to pull down the said
Ten Houses and to build Eight brick Houses in front in their room
according to the second rate of Building in London and to execute a
Counter part of such Lease or Leases & to lay out £1600 in Building
and praying a Lease or Leases according to his said proposals

Shoreditch Middx Bricklayer for a Lease or Leases of the same premisses
for the term of 61 years from the Expiration of the Lease in being at
the Rent of a Pepper Corn for the first year and for the remainder of the
term at the yearly kent of £30. clear of all Taxes and to pay a Fine
of £180. and build Eight brick Houses in front in their room according
to the second rate of Building in London and to execute a Counter part
of such Lease or Leases and to lay out £1600. in Building and praying
a Lease or Leases according to his said proposalsIt is Ordered that
the said several Petitions be referred to the Comee of this [..] House
who are to consider the same & report their Opinion thereon to the Court.
