8th July 1720

Upon debate of the matter Mr. Treasr. Tayler & Mr. Beanchamp (who together wth.
Mr. Chamberlen Since deced had at ye desire of this Comee viewed the premisses)
acquainted the Comee That the New River water Company would be Glad to take
Some part of the Ground comprized in the said Lease to the said Sarah Newby< no role >
(which would be no way presudicail or inconvenient either to Mr. Armitt or Mr.
Cordwell) upon advantageous Terms to the hospital But the Comee conceiveing
they are not authorized by ye Court to treat wth. ye said Company It is
Ordered That a Report thereof be made to ye Court for their direct walker in
before the Comittee proceed further in the consideration of ye sd two petitions
Whereupon It is Ordered by this Court That it be Referred back to ye same
Comittee to receive proposals from the New River water Company relating to ye
premisses & to Report their Opinion therein as well as on ye sd two petitions before Referrd
to em'

Beadles Gra ½ year
to Midsumr. 1720}


Upon reading the humble Petition of ye four Beadles and porters man of this hospll.
for their usual Gratuitys of forty Shillings a peice in respect of the halfe year
ending at Midsumr. last for their salarys are but small It is Ordered that ye
Clerk of these hospitals do give and pay unto them forty Shillings a peice to
be allowd him in his next account

Basketmen Gra ½ ye
to Mid sr. 1720


Upon reading ye humble Petition of the three Basketmen of ye hospital of
Bethlem for their usual Gratuitys of Twenty Shillings a peice in respect of
ye halfe year ending at Midsumr. last for their Salarys are but small It is
Ordered that ye Clerke of these hospitals do give and pay unto them
Twenty Shillings a peice to be allowed him in his next account.

Dorsett The Duke denies to
make a drain thro ye Burying ground}
Mr. Bond (shawd to Sd Daut)
at ye 3. Teny Sahabury Court


This Court being informed That Mr. Bond Steward to his Grace The
Duke of Dorset attended in the Lobby he was called in and acquainted ye
Court That there is a peice of Ground (which is the burging Ground)
of this hospital thro which there runs a Drain from North to south and
empieth itself into ye Thames and that his Grace desires he may
have liberty to Cutt a Drain of two foot and a halfe evide from the dead
Wall on the West side of the Ground into the said Drain Whereupon
It is Ordered that it be Referred to ye Comee of this house to Consider
of the matter and to Report their Opinion therein to this Court and
that John Lade< no role > Esqr . one of the Governor s of this hospital be added
to the said Comee for this purpose.
