2d. Decemr. 1715.

expended fifteen Shillings thereof the same night at the Bull
Ale house next to the said Bridewell That a woman at a
Cole Shop by the Ditch Side gave out One Stick among the sd
Boys and Encouraged them Saying they were Brave Boys

The Information of Samuel Cox< no role > aged about
Eighteen years Apprentice to William Phillips< no role > a Weaver and
one of the Artsmasters of the Hospital of Bridewell London
taken this day before me upon Oath as followeth vizt

This Informant Sayth That on the Evening of the
Twentieth of Octor. Last being the Anniversary of the Coronation
of his Majesty King George there was Ten Shillings given
among the Blew Coat Boys of the said Hospital for them to drink
under the Gateway of the said Hospital for their Service which
they had done in working their Engine at the Late fire in the strand
That this Informant heard a Bounce of Gunpowder which was
then Reported to be put in the Keyhole of the Gateway Padlock
That imediately on the Said Bounce Several of the Blew Coat
CoatBoys gave aloud Hollow in the Yard and run to the Said
Gateway and that Thomas Atkins< no role > one of the Beadles & Turnbey
of the said Hospital ran with them to the Said Gateway and felt
on ye said Padlock and imediately Reported to the other Beadles
that ye said Padlock was fast and that halfe of the said Gunpowder
would have done if it had been put right And that at ye said instant
the Gates flew open and Some of the said Blew Coat Boys that
was nearest run out upon which James Male< no role > one of the Beadles
put a forme before the said Gate and then retired to the other Gate
without endeavouring to hinder the rest of the Boys going out
which might easily have been done had he and the rest of the Beadles
(namely Richard Gethins< no role > Brandham and Harris)
used their endeavours being all present there aboutsThat
imediately a great number of the Said Blew Coat Boys being
about Sixty among whom were then present John Harrison< no role > a
Blew Coat Boy of the Said Hospital and apprentice to
Burnham one of the Artsmasters of the said Hospital and
Thomas Hudson< no role > another Blew Coat Boy and Apprentice
