Steward of
Bethlem £20 Gratuity


Upon the humble Petition of Thomas Yates< no role > Steward of the
Hospitall of Bethlem for an Addition to be made to his
Salary the same being but £20. per aunn and the number
of Lunaticks in the said Hospll. farr greater then if has been
formerly and the pains in Collecting the Moneys payable for
the said Lunaticks (their Securities being dispersed by all
over the Citty and Suborbs) being such that the said Steward
cannot attend to any other business or Employment And
the perquists of the said Office very small This Court
taking the same into Consideration Did not think fitt to
Jurcast the said Sallary of £20. a yeare But Doe Order
And it is hereby Ordered by this Court that Mr. Trear
for the more comfortable Subsistance of the said Thomas
Yates
< no role > and his family Doe give any and pay unto him Twenty
pounds as a free gratuity of this Court for the encouragemt.
of his care and dilligence in the said Hospll. and the Affairs
thereof.

Also upon the Certificate of Mr. Humphrey Kilby< no role > and
Mr. Nicholas Ashton< no role > (two of the Governors of this Hospll.)
that upon Inquiry they find that John Jones< no role > (who was
brought up an Apprentice in this Hospll. with Benjamin
Clare
< no role > Glover and Since made a Freeman of this Citty by
the approvacon of this Court) is sett up for himselfe in
his Trade of a Clover and that the goods he works on are
his own That he has the Character of A Civill Sober
industrious young man and person whom they esteemed
well qualifyed for the favour, of this Court and for Mr.
Locks Charity It is Ordered by this Court That Mr.
Trear Baker Doe give and pay puts him Tenn pounds
out of the profitts of Mr. Locks Gift the better to enable
him to manage his Said Trade To be allowed Mr. Trear
in his next Account.

Also upon the humble Petition of John page< no role > Cittizen and Weaver
of London (who was Apprentice to John Browne< no role > Weaver (out of
the Artsmasters of the Hospll. and Served him faith fully all his
apprenticeshipp and who has heretofore received five pounds of
Mr. Locks gift). for some further part thereof the better to enable
him to carry on and manage his said Trade And Mr. William
Shaw
< no role > and Mr. James Smith< no role > (two of the Covenors. of this Hospll.
having certifyed to this Court a very good Account of the said
John Page< no role > of his having improved the five pounds he formerly
reced and of his hopefullness in his Trade It is Ordered by this
Court that Mr. Trear Baker doe give and pay unto him Five
pounds more of Mr. Locks gift to be allowed Mr. Treaver in his
next Account.
