Mary Andrews proceedingsdefend , of St. Mary in Whitechapel , was indicted for Assaulting William Rowley proceedingsvictim on the High Way, putting him in Fear, and taking from him 54 s. in Money , on the 19th of April last. The Prisoner stood Mute, and refused to plead, till the Money which was taken from her when she was apprehended, should be restored to her. And notwithstanding the Admonition of the Court, was so obstinate as to suffer three Whipcords to be broke in tying her Thumbs, as the Law requires in such Cases, and then Pleaded Not Guilty. And no Evidence appearing against her, the Jury Acquitted her.
