ON reading the letter sent to the Clerk of the Peace by
his Grace the Duke of Montagu, as President of the Soci-
ety establihed in London , for giving effect to his Ma-
jesty's late Proclamation, in which letter the Society is
pleased recommend to the Justices at their Quarter-
Sessions, that two Magistrates may be deputed from every
County in the kingdom to meet in London after Christ-
mas, and during the session of Parliament, to consider of
the proper steps to be taken for bringing forward such
plans for the general reform of the police as they shall
think most advisable, It is

Resolved, That institutions of this Kind, being founded
on the noblest and most difintersted principles, this Court
beg leave to offer their warmest and most sincere acknow-
ledgements to his Grace the Duke of Montague, and those
other distinguished persons who compose the Society in
which his Grace presides, for their zeal, perseverance, and
firmness in the conduct of it, and to assure them that the
Magistrates of this Riding will exert themselves to the
utmost of their powers, in giving weight and energy to
this most important undertaking.

Resolved, that the Earl of Effingham and the Rev . Henry
Zouch
< no role > be requested to give their attendance in London,
in puruance of the recommendatory lettter from his Grace
the Duke of Montagu, and that they be desired to com-
municate from time to time with the other Justices of this
Riding, in order to obtain every necessary information
which may conduce to the establishment of a strong, ef-
ective, and permanent system of police.

Resolved, That these resolutions be submitted to the
consideration of the Court of Quarter-sessions which is to
be holden the next week at Rotherham.

THIS Court having taken into consideration the resolu-
tions of Bradford sessions, do unanimously approve of
them; and it is ordered that copies of them be transmitted
by the Clerk of the Peace to his Grace the Duke of
Norfolk, Lord Lieutenant and Custos Rotulorum of this
Riding, who is requested to communicate them to his
Grace the Duke of Montagu and the Earl of Effingham .
