Not Receiving any Benefit in the Workhouse he was sent to the Hospital [..]
again and Admitted on the 27th. July and remain'd there all the 16th. Novr.
and was sent on in his way to Ireland on the 20th. & Novr. 1785

16th. of the same Month in the Morning

the next Night.

Mr. Adams being interrogated as to the manner of passing Vagrants
gave the following Account Vizt.

That they are in general passed by Horses and Carts - That sometimes
when they are able he gives them Money to Walk.

That he sends them of on Tuesdays and Fridays

That each Cart carries Nine Persons

That there is One Horse and One Man to each Cart.

That the cart to Staines by Denham Colnbrook Etc is out two days on
each Journey

That the Cart to Mimms returns the same day.

That the Cart to Cheshunt returns the same day.

That the Vagrants stay with him till the Cart returns.

That they are allowed 3d per day subsistence while with him and Six
Pence per day while on the Road.

That he has at present Three Men and Two Horses and Carts.

That he has not hired any Men Horses or Carts in Addition thereto for
Three Months as the Vagrants have not been so heavy for four Months
last past

That from April 1784 to April 1785 he had three and sometimes four Horses.

Upon Investigation of this Subject This Committee are of Opinion That
Mr. Adams should be allowed £100 in Addition to his Salary of £250 for
One Year commending April 1784 and ending in April 1785 in consideration
of the extraordinary Trouble and Expence he was put to by the great
increase of Vagrants during that Period as stated in his Petition

Adjourned to Saturday next the 11th. Instant
same place and hour
