took said Lay to Tothil fields Bridewell where said Lay with his Pass Etc. were delivered
that about a week after said Perrin saw said Lay in Saint Giles's and again some little time after
in Saint James's Street when said perrin ask's sd. Lay how he came out of Bridewell and at largeAndto
which he replied that there was a boy come with a Cart to Bridewell and took him the sd. Lay a
little way and then told him he might go where he like and sd. Perrin had an Order upon the high
Constable for apprehending sd. Lay And it further appeared to the Committee that above
twelvemonth age sd. Perrin took a Man down to Tothil fields Bridewell in order to be passed
Bagshot and that in about a fortnight afterwards the same man came to the workhouse Ga [..]
in Mount street where sd. Perrin said him and ask'd him how he came there when he said he
was taken from Tothil fields Bridewell in a Cart up to Islington and the next time the Can [..]
came down to Bridewell he was brought down to Hyde park Corner and there set down had [..]
given him and was ordered to go to Staines where he went and from thence to Bagshot , and
soon returned again to Mount street where sd. Perrin saw him that sd. Perrin took him in to th [..]
Workhouse and Benjamin Wingrove< no role > the Messenger of Saint George's Parish went wit
Vagrantunderwith a Pass to Bagshot at the expence of the Parish; and this Testimony was further
corroborated on the Examination of sd. Wingrove the Messenger.

It appeared also that The above. Lewis apprehended one Edwd. Maclauchlin< no role > a Vagrant in sd. Parish
St. George on 23d. May 1772 & carried him before Etc Wm. Timbrell< no role > Esqr. by whom he was
examd. & passed for Ireland from whence sd. Lewis took him down to Tothil fields
Bridewell & delivd. him there together with his pass That sd. Lewis saw him again on 29
Janry 1774 & then carried him before George Wright< no role > Esqr. where he was examined & order
to be passed for Irelandagainand that sd. Lewis carried him again to Tothil fields Bridew
& delivd. him in Custody there for that purpose that sd. Lewis saw him about a fortnight [..]
3 weeks afterwards begging in said Parish that he apprehended him again a 3d. times & took him
before Mr. Wright where he was again Examd. & upon his Examination said that he was
taken out of Bridewell in a Cart and that when they got just on the other side of
Tyburn Turnpike the young man who drove the Cart stop'd it & said he would not car [..]
him any further gave him some money to get him some Bread & Cheese & bid him go
about his business that sd. Lewis had Ten shillings for each of the last times he
apprehended sd. Maclauchlin that sd. Lewis gave 1s. & 6d. to Mr. Wrighte the Justice
he having declared he would not examine the Vagrants of St. George's Parish without
being paid for it & that he would have 1s & 6d for every one that sd. Lewis gave also
something to the Clerk (vizt.) 1s. once & 6d. the other time and sd. Lewis further said he
could produce fifty instances of the same kind whereupon he was ordered to produce the
same to the Committee [..] at their next meeting but at the next meeting of the said
