Committee being called upon to give the Account he had promised as aforesiad then
declared he could not recollect any other instance and refered the Committee to the Parish
books for further information in the Premisses, it appeared likewise to the Committee on inspecting
the entry books, in the hands of the Treasurer of the Countythat 10s. wereof the allowance
made for the apprehending of Vagrants that 10s. were ordered each of the last times for
apprehending sd. Maclauchlin

It also appeared to the Committee on the Examination of Philip Leman< no role > and Nicholas Humphreys< no role > beadles of the Parish of St. James's
Westminster who had been summoned to attend by order of the Committee that sd. Lemon
never gave any thing to the Justice or his Clerk for an order upon the apprehending of a
Vagrant but 6d. once to the Clerk, and that sd. Humphreys had apprehended one
Elizth. Holland< no role > This name instance is in set 3702. about three Months ago & took her before George Waighte< no role > Esqr. who made
pass to Bethnal Green & sd. Humphreys carried her in [..] pursuaned thereof to Tothil fields
Bridewell that abt. a Month after one Thos. Davis< no role > apprehended sd. Vagrant & took her before
sd. Justices who made out anor. pass to Benthnal Green that a few days afterwards sd. Davis
apprehended her again & tooke her a third Time before Mr. Wrighte [..] when sd. Justice
made out a settlement Pass with which sd. Davis took her to Bethnal Green & delivered her
to the Overseer of the Poor there that abt. 2 days afterwards he the sd. Humphreys saw her
again & ask'd her how she came back upon which she replied they (meaning the Overseers)
would not do any thing for her that sd. Humphreys knew 5sh. were given each of the [..]
two first: times the sd. Holland was apprehended out of which 6d. was given each time to the sd.
George Wrighte< no role > Esqr. who took the same and it also appeared to this Committee by the
County Treasurer's book that sd. Humphreys reced 5s. for apprehending sd. Holland 2d. Decr.
1773 & Thos. Davis reced 5s. for the same 2d. March 1774, The Committee proceeded to
examine the order of Session of the 14th. July 1757 by which it appears that James Sturges
Adams
< no role > having proposed to convey all such Vagabonds whose passes were lodged at the several
Bridewells of Clerkenwell & Tothil fields twice every week (vizt.) those whose Destination is to
the north on one day and these to the South andWeekwest on some other Day in every week for the
sum of £:10 P Month & the allowance of 6d. for the subsistance of every Vagrant in their
passage the same was agreed to & by the Order 1st. March 1759 sd. Adams was to clear the Bridewells & otr. places of
lodgments for Vagabonds 4 times every week (vizt.) twice to the North & East & twice to the
West & reqularly go to Coln brooke & Staines Twice a Week & the same to South Mims & Endfield
