Castle Hedingham in Essex

That the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
Parish of Castle Hedingham by Certificate under their
Hands and Seals bearing Date the 18th. Day of Febry 1729
Attested by 2 witnesses duly allowed and confirmed by 2 of
his Majestys Justices of the peace for the said County of Essex
did own and acknowledge Jonathan Ward< no role > and his wife and
Children to be Inhabitants legally settled in their said Parish

That in the year 1730 said Jonathan Ward< no role > being a Stone
Masans Labourer he went about the Country with his
Family and work's at several places a good way distant
from Castle Headingham and hearing that his Uncle was
dead he went over to withersfield in the County of Suffolk
and found that two copy hold Cottages in withersfield
aforesaid had some to him by Descent from his Uncle and
about May 1730 was admitted to the Collages and said Ward
then sending for his Family he and they lodged for some
time in Withersfield Town and after they had gott some
convenienys Ward and his Family went & Resided in One of
the said Colleges about 9 Months That in about 3
Weeks after he had so fixt his Family in One of the said
Cottages he went to Cambridge to gott work where he
lodged (it being about 12 Miles distant from withersfield)
but weekly or very frequently came home to his Family
on the Saturday and peturn'd on Monday Morning but when
the work was finished at Cambridge he returned to

Withersfield to his Family and staid with them about 10
Days and then went to gett work at Chelmsford which
being a great Distance from withersfield he sent for his
Family and has not since resided in Withersfields

[..] After nine Months residence in one of the Cottages as above States
Ward sold the Cottages for 6 Guineas with the incumbrance of the Fine
& Fees of his Admission.
